Role Summary
The main purpose of a Ship Broker is to act as a specialist intermediary/ negotiator between shipowners and charterers to arrange ocean transport of goods and commodities by sea, the employment of a vessel or to buy/ sell ships on behalf of a client. We have a great opportunity for a talented, experienced Shipbroker to join our Sale & Purchase Department in our Singapore office. We seek exceptional communication skills, a strong work ethic and a high degree of integrity.
What you will be doing
- Instigate, arrange and negotiate deals, including relationship building to develop business
- Daily contact with ship owners and charterers
- Maintain a database of daily market activities and keep track of vessel positions
- Negotiate charters to achieve optimum results for clients
- Provide market insight and trade ideas to clients
- Build strong rapport with existing clients and develop business with new clients
- Maintain databases and prepare market information and reports for clients
- Maintain internal data flow of key market information
What we are looking for
Key Attributes
- At least 10 years' experience working in the Maritime industry
- A degree from a reputable university will be highly regarded
- An in-depth knowledge of the Sale & Purchase market
- Able to build strong working relationships with clients and develop new business
- Good commercial judgement with excellent negotiation skills
- Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written)
- Fluency in Mandarin is essential
- Driven, self-motivated and client-focused
- An outgoing and confident personality
- Strong numeracy skills and excellent presentation skills
- Confident and able to work well under pressure
- Strong attention to detail
- Strong MS office skills in Excel, PowerPoint, Word
