Financial Controller

Job Objectives

As a member of management, the Financial Controller is responsible for direct supervision of all day-to-day accounting and financial activities. Primary responsibilities include supervision of daily and period end processes preparing, Period, Quarter and Annual reporting while supervising Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Payroll Processing, Treasury functions, GL Activities and reporting.

Responsible for budgeting and forecasting, financial planning and analysis, risk management, treasury management, tax planning and analysis, risk management, treasury management, tax planning and compliance, internal control, audit, as well as stakeholder relations.

The Financial Controller will implement systems which align with the policies and procedures at our company as well as preparing financial reports that comply with HKEX and group requirements based on IFRS.


Job Responsibilities

Leading financial accounting and corporate reporting function:

  • Ensure organisation compliance with regulations involving the filing of financial and tax statements
  • Ensure the organization has effective internal controls in place to prevent fraud, waste, and abuse
  • Lead finance teams on the technical and quality aspects of financial reporting
  • Translate highly complex information in financial reports into useful information for stakeholders without deep financial technical expertise
  • Review consolidation and analyse all relevant accounting records prepared by the finance team for accuracy and completeness
  • Responsible for monthly and quarterly financial reporting & analysis including variance analysis
  • Plan and drive the preparation of annual financial reporting and forecasting
  • Manage and review financial statements, annual XBRL filing and ad hoc government surveys and statistics reporting
  • Manage and priorities tasks, problem-solve issues and work efficiently with other departments and professional service providers to meet all required reporting and statutory compliance requirements and deadlines
  • Review and implement accounting and financial procedures and policies to ensure compliance with accounting standards and financial policies
  • Enhance financial reporting quality to reflect non-historical information, and the organisation’s potential future performance in financial reports
  • Lead the organisation in the requirements and effectiveness of sustainability reporting and integrated reporting
  • Review and approve payments prepared by the finance team

Cash and Treasury Management and Financing

  • Responsible for banking matters, cash management, cash forecasting and arrangement of funding to ensure sufficient funds at each legal entity
  • Prepare weekly cashbook reporting with cash flow analysis
  • Lead and manage project financing

Stock Exchange Reporting

  • Prepare announcements and circulars
  • Manage queries raised from Stock Exchange

Drive Tax Efficiency

  • Oversee tax planning, include transfer pricing, for the organisation
  • Evaluate effect of transfer prices and recommend transfer pricing systems
  • Manage and review income tax & deferred tax computations, as well as any necessary information to support tax filings
  • Manage and review quarterly GST reporting

Support CFO and organisation as Strategic Business Advisor

  • Provide financial accounting support, analysis and projections to business units
  • Guide the organisation’s long term financial strategy
  • Steer the organisation towards its vision and formulate a clearer perspective of the bigger picture
  • Evaluate mergers and acquisitions (M&A) opportunities to create shareholder value
  • Provide financial value, business and intelligence support in structuring commercial deals
  • Perform highly complex scenario analysis to create possible actions for various forecasting outcomes
  • Advise organisations on the handling of funds beyond business investments through the financial markets
  • Review proposed recommendations for restructuring and insolvency activities
  • Review proposed valuation activities, timeline and project progress

Support CFO in driving strategic planning and talent development for the organization

  • Lead finance team in developing strategic priorities, culture and governance
  • Formulate business direction and resolve complex organisational issues with analytical thinking
  • Formulate clear strategic plans and take planned actions to achieve long term goals
  • Find new ways to sustain performance and grow the business
  • Drive forecasting and budgeting to align the finance function with the strategic vision of the business
  • Ensure that budgets are able to support and are sustainable to match strategic goals
  • Drive pricing and financial strategy to align with business strategy

Drive process improvement and resource allocation to enhance effectiveness and efficiency of organisation

  • Lead efforts in the redesign of core business processes to improve productivity and efficiency
  • Oversee effective cash flow management across the organisation to aid business growth and operation
  • Lead working capital management and expenditure
  • Guide finance teams to identify areas for cost and expense reduction
  • Ensure that costs are managed well to improve the bottom line for their organisations
  • Perform checks and balances for the business in the M&A process and monitor the measures of success
  • Advise on the role of sustainability to improve environmental, social and financial business performance

Lead in governance, compliance and risk management

  • Manage risks by taking an integrated view of all uncertainties and that exist across an organization
  • Provide executive support to the Board of Directors with financial and non-financial information
  • Lead implementation and compliance of control policies
  • Drive innovates and strategic changes to audit practices
  • Ensure conformance of laws and regulations on the business strategy and organisation’s business
  • Risk manages the whole mergers and acquisitions (M&A) process
  • Nurture an ethical culture across the organisation
  • Lead resolution to ethical dilemmas

Drive change in the finance function

  • Use analytics to support business growth and needs, as well as identify potential risks and problems
  • Connect underlying complex non-financial drivers of a business to financial information through analytics
  • Break down complex numbers into good intelligence to support business growth and drive value creation
  • Use predictive analytics as an enabler to forecast future performance and perform stress testing on business lines
  • Lead the development of innovative finance and other processes to build value-adding capabilities in the organization
  • Deliver analytics-driven insight through technology to create a competitive advantage

Support the investor relations and stakeholders management

  • Support Investors Relations communication of the organisation’s financial and business information
  • Support the engagement of stakeholders for matters arising from risk, controls and compliance
  • Manage working relationship with various stakeholders
  • Coordinate with external auditors and ensure that the organization is prepared for financial audits

Job Requirements

  • A qualified Accountant (CPA / ACCA / FCCA /or equivalent) and Degree holder with at least 10 years' experience preferably gained from an MNC and with minimum 5 years’ experience in a listed company
  • Minimum 8 years in a team management capacity
  • Familiarity with Hong Kong / Singapore Stock Exchange compliance and reporting standards
  • Extensive management accounting, reporting, business partnering experience, and strong business acumen and stakeholder management skills
  • Excellent knowledge of data analysis and forecasting methods
  • Proficient in MS Office and various Financial Management software
  • Strong leadership and organisational skills
  • Excellent communication and people skills
  • An analytical mind, ability to strategize and solve problems and comfortable with numbers
