The Role
As a crucial member of our trading hub operations, this role supports the Country Head in ensuring the timely and complete delivery of imported feedstock requirements as defined by our S&OP process, while implementing cost-effective and efficient freight and logistics services by leveraging our volume, demand planning, mill relationships, and market insights. The role involves developing and executing a freight and logistics strategy to supply raw materials and traded products across our international operations, analyzing market trends to enhance efficiency and competitiveness, and overseeing daily freight operations with a focus on managing transportation expenses. The incumbent will lead and mentor a team of freight professionals, manage strategic supplier relationships with shipping vendors, negotiate optimal rates and service levels, and apply expertise in freight classification, routing, ports, rates, and claims management. Additional responsibilities include overseeing the execution of shipping documentation, conducting regular pricing reviews and benchmarking, participating in global and local procurement budget development, managing global freight operational performance, validating service provider invoices, providing weekly freight reports to leadership, and collaborating with internal divisions and customers to resolve issues. Overseas travel may be required for supplier meetings.
Requirements
This role requires a candidate with a degree (preferred) and over 15 years of experience in competitively sourcing logistics categories, along with extensive experience in breakbulk and container shipments. The candidate must have strong knowledge of shipping operations, documentation, chartering, and cargo loading, with a background as a Ship Broker/Agent being highly valued. Fluency in English and Mandarin is essential. The role demands experience in contract management, including drafting, reviewing, and assessing terms and conditions for both long-term and spot contracts, along with strong negotiation skills and the ability to think strategically and develop long-term roadmaps that support business needs in evolving environments. Clear communication skills are also crucial to effectively work with internal stakeholders, suppliers, and executive management to drive supply chain strategies and outcomes.
