About the Role:
The Category Specialist is responsible to manage the full spectrum of the procurement processes and activities, providing category management leadership, functional guidance, and coordination for all aspects of procurement to the business functions locally. The scope of the Procurement categories covers local Marketing & Services procurement scope including but not limited to sub-categories such as Asset Optimization / Retail equipment, facilities signages, maintenance, repair and site construction, Retail Technology and Automation, Brand / advertising and promotions, Loyalty and consulting services, logistics/ supply chain and direct materials. The role will require close collaboration and positive relationship building with management, business stakeholders, local Procurement team and external vendors to deliver key strategies for sustainable growth.
The ideal candidate thinks strategically and is collaborative but also works with significant autonomy; a strong leader who can drive category strategies and has proven track record of managing multiple initiatives and driving them to completion to meet business objectives; communicates effectively and strong ability to influence business stakeholders and suppliers at all levels and have a high level of professionalism, customer focus and business judgement.
Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:
- Plans, coordinates and develops category and contracting plans
- Drives compliance to Procurement policies and procedures
- Develops procurement strategies to execute sustainable cost savings for the business using strategic sourcing and category management processes and ensure that strategic sourcing principles are consistently used to drive best practices.
- Develops mechanism and metrics to hold suppliers accountable for performance and delivery.
- Regular engagement with stakeholders to review project plans and ensure the quality of the service of suppliers’ performance.
- Tracks and reports savings results and supplier performance information

- Monitors market conditions that impact the categories within the marketplace
- Works collaboratively as a business partner to explore and implement any cost savings and/or efficiency management opportunities and supplier relationships
- Works closely with stakeholders to ensure the procurement strategy is aligned with Business Plan objectives
- Leads local sourcing and contract management, performance reporting and management of non-contracted spend.
- Leads negotiations or assists the lead negotiator in developing and applying appropriate negotiation strategies and tactics.
- Conducts supply market analysis activities and monitor market conditions that impact the categories within the marketplace. If applicable, develops transition plans and oversees implementation of new supply arrangements in conjunction with relevant business experts.
- Develops supplier relationships to optimize value creation opportunities. Utilizes strategic cost management tools and trend forecasts to assist in maximizing value of supplier relationships and contracts.
- Acts as a procurement advisor providing category guidance and implementation of global & regional initiatives at a localized level and provide functional guidance to business stakeholders when required.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Supply Chain Management related fields. An MBA will be a plus
- At least 5 years’ experience in Procurement/Category Management experience with the Oil & Gas, FMCG, Chemical or other related industries with knowledge in managing Marketing contracts.
- Have an in-depth understanding in Category Management with experience in category planning, contract management, supplier management and possess strong negotiation skills
- Experience in developing/applying total cost ownership (TCO), Should Cost Modeling and other category management techniques in strategic sourcing
- Good team player and strong drive for performance and results
- Excellent written, verbal communication and presentation skills.
- Strong analytical and project management skills with good attention to detail
- Proven ability to interface and influence at various levels within the organization to drive outcome and results
- Demonstrates the ability to identify new opportunities, challenge the "status quo" and drive changes.
- E-Procurement knowledge - GEP / SAP capability is a plus.
