Brew Crew Opportunity

Our Global Brew Crew is seeking our next Director, Communication, reporting to the Chief Marketing Officer.

You will be responsible for Corporate Communications, both external and internal for head office and its global businesses (direct owned and franchised markets). This position is responsible for supporting the development of best-in-class capabilities, to promote growth, manage and enhance brand reputation, attract talent and deepen employee engagement.


You will lead in translating The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf’s strategic direction, priorities and impact into a company positioning through narrative-led and integration communications approach (i.e. traditional, social, alternative engagement platforms. etc.) that builds and shapes the company’s reputation. Your stakeholders are both internal and external include the C-levels, employees, media, business analysts, industry influencers and opinion leaders.


Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

Communications Strategy Development, Planning and Management

  • Develop corporate communications strategy, roadmap and manage communications to position and raise profile of the company through creating strong brand awareness (corporate identity) and brand credibility (corporate reputation)
  • Work closely with business teams to create compelling stories that appeal to consumers, channels, partners, and internal and external talent
  • Articulate and translate complex situations into clear communicable materials and assets for internal and external audiences
  • Develop and implement strategic and consistent corporate messaging
  • Develop and drive PR strategies, manage PR agencies and media relations across media markets to develop and execute PR campaigns for the company or products
  • Anticipate and solve complex, fast-moving and unexpected issues, crisis and communications challenges
  • Drive public affairs strategy and framework to manage government relations
  • Build communications capabilities across locations

Internal Communications / Employee Engagement

  • Design, define and execute internal communication framework, employee engagement programs and campaigns to support business strategy and people agenda by partnering with CHRO, CMO and key business stakeholders
  • Build a feedback-driven culture, derive insights, and use data from employee surveys and other channels to create and own meaningful programs that address gaps in employee experience to create the culture we want to promote, as well as to improve talent retention and employee engagement
  • Create compelling social media and digital communication channels to increase awareness and drive employee advocacy

Advisory & Business Partnering

  • Partner business leaders in leveraging communications and storytelling, providing executive and leadership communications support to enable and support business needs
  • Coach and provide direction to business leaders on using communications to support change management and people agenda

Your Ingredients

  • Minimum of a B.A./B.S. degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 15 to 20 years of progressive corporate communications experience, across both external and internal communications
  • Experience with multi-unit, multi-state, multi-functional organization
  • A strategic thinker - will work with business leaders and human resources to convert management imperatives into external and internal narratives
  • A creative executor and capable program manager - be able, not only to strategize, but also to efficiently and effectively program manage across multiple, concurrent campaigns
  • Strong communicator and writer - be able to express complexity in an easy to understand, relatable and motivating manner. Turn our company story into an interesting narrative and our product profiles into easy to communicate messaging. You must have exceptional writing and editing skills with a commitment to the highest quality standards
  • Highly energetic and partnership oriented - this role will have a lot of internal visibility particularly with senior management, human resources and business teams. Being a strong collaborator and people person is a prerequisite
  • Can-do spirit, hands-on, navigate through ambiguity
  • Well-organized and detail-oriented
