JOB PURPOSE-
The role holder is responsible for managing the teachers in the department, inspiring and facilitating the best possible teaching and learning in the given subject.
Leadership-
§ Supports the Principal and Vice Principal in the implementation of the campus’s policies, procedures, and processes
§ Leads, trains, guides and supports teachers the department and oversees their career development in conjunction with the Principal and Vice Principal, making recommendations for appropriate in-service training
Functional-
Responsible for reviewing textbooks from different publishers, making recommendations on alternative textbooks as per modification of subjects’ syllabus, and getting approval from the Principal and National Head, Academics
Reviews the lesson plans and examination papers developed by the teachers, provides inputs, ensures alignment with the curriculum guidelines and gets approval from the Principal
Evaluates the examination question papers and marking schemes and any discrepancy/variation in answers can be accepted only after discussion with the other Head of Departments, who in turn will ensure that the same information is communicated to all the teachers
Maintain utmost confidentiality of the exam questions and marking scheme
Ensure subject syllabus is covered as per schedule and its content is uniformly covered in all sections of a particular class
Ensure number of periods spend on a particular content/subject are equally distributed among all sections of a particular class
Conducts departmental meetings and apprise members of updates from the Board on any changes in their respective subjects
Maintains a register on Meeting Agenda and Meeting Minutes
Monitors the performance of the students in the department, reviews feedback for the teachers in the department, and develops corrective action plans, if required
Interaction
Inform the Principal of successes arising from the work of pupils studying the subject and of any pupils posing or encountering problems
Bring forward problems of any kind arising from the teaching of the subject and to inform the Principal of any staffing matters
