Dulwich College (Singapore) is seeking a Assistant Teacher (Music) to join its Music Department in October 2024. Providing administrative and organisational support to the Music Department in the Senior School, coordinating the allocation and the upkeep of the extensive instrument stock and resources for the strings, wind and bass programme. The role includes leading small ensembles and offering some support to children in lessons.

This is a Term-Time role.

The duties and responsibilities of the role include:

  • To support in a class as decided by the Director of Music, and the Head of Senior School Music.
  • To support the class teachers in the learning of each child.
  • To facilitate the learning of individual children or a small group of children, guided by, and in consultation with, the class teachers.
  • To participate in the extra-curricular life of the children by leading, organising, and being involved in extra-curricular activities, concerts and events, as required.
  • To be responsible, with Teachers in the department, for the pastoral care of the children in their class and to be involved in the pastoral care of all children in the College.
  • To take part in the planning and preparation for learning both inside and outside the classroom as led by the Teachers in the department.
  • To work alongside the class teachers to create an environment in which the children’s learning flourishes;
  • To manage behaviour positively, as agreed and set out in College policies.
  • To support school performances by supporting groups of children with rehearsals and preparation.
  • To ensure all instruments are logged into the school database.
  • To assist with logging and overseeing necessary instrumental repair works.
  • To manage the issuing of instruments, books and accessories to all students.
  • To liaise with Finance and Procurement departments to fulfil purchasing requirements for the department as specified by the Head of Senior School Music and the Director of Music.
  • Manage the collection of resources and equipment from children leaving the College.
  • To work with the Director of Music, the Head of Senior School Music, and the Marketing and Communication teams to create content for social media and displays.
  • To take responsibility for the management of classroom resources, the replenishment of materials, setting up of the classroom, creating displays and ensuring the safety of the teaching environment;
  • To be aware of, and take part in, the schools performance management framework and participate in professional learning and development activities as required.
  • To attend staff meetings and professional development activities as required.
  • To undertake supervisory and cover duties before and after school and during breaks as required.
  • To act as a role model, showing awareness of individual needs and responding to them.
  • To carry out all other duties, as may be reasonably requested by the Director of Music, Head of Senior School Music and the Head of College of Dulwich College (Singapore).

All other duties commensurate with the post.

The successful candidate will have:

  • A minimum of ‘A’ levels;
  • Achievement of graded music examinations may be an advantage.
  • A PGCEwould be desirable but not essential
  • A minimum of one year’s relevant work experience, ideally gained in an administrative environment;
  • Experience of using computer systems, including Microsoft Office;
  • Experience of learning musical instruments;
  • Experience of working independently with little supervision;
  • Experience of working with children in a school environment would be an advantage.
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills;
  • Excellent customer care skills, and the ability to relate well to children;
  • The ability to communicate effectively throughout the College;
  • A flexible approach to work, and the willingness to contribute to the team;
  • The ability to use own initiative to undertake required tasks.
