How will you make an impact in this role?


The key responsibility of this role is to ensure the financial integrity of American Express legal entities’ financial reporting and contribute to transformational initiatives within business and finance for Malaysia and Philippines markets.


The candidate is required to understand US GAAP and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). It is also expected for the role to work closely with global colleagues across multiple geographical locations on transformational change management initiatives covering strategic analysis, business projects and process improvements.

Principle activities include the following:

  • Legal entity financial performance and governance

Ø Lead discussion and collaborate with various internal stakeholders, including business teams, accounting CoE, tax etc.

Ø Perform variance analysis and present impactful financial data analytics and insights to senior management, including Board of Directors and Country Executive Team.

  • Finance and Business strategic partnership

Ø Project manage the operational execution of multiple cross functional projects to ensure alignment on objectives and deliverables across all stakeholders.

Ø Determine accounting treatment and implement finance process on business initiatives and act as the subject-matter-expert.

Ø Prepare and present financial scorecard highlighting data insights.

  • Regulatory and Statutory financial reporting matters

Ø Key point-of-contact for external stakeholders, such as external auditors and regulators.

Ø Monitor, review, and submit regulatory report and schedules.

  • Participate in Change Management and Improvement Opportunities in Finance across APAC region

Ø Work closely with finance colleagues on APAC regional initiatives across different disciplines: Digital Transformation, Process Automation, Financial Reporting Standardization, Talent Development.

  • Lead a team of one direct report

The candidate should thrive to lead the way and enjoys working in an agile and empowered environment with high expectations and performance standards.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Degree holder in Accounting, Finance or related discipline. CA or CPA qualifications.
    Minimum 5 years finance, accounting and regulatory reporting experience; ideally with external audit experience in Big 4.
    Strong understanding of US GAAP, IFRS and legal entity governance.
    Able to communicate key messages clearly, succinctly and with confidence to all level including senior management.
    Knowledge of Oracle ERP system preferred.
    Data management experience preferred (SQL, Power BI, Tableau).
