Job scope:
1.0 Job Purpose
1.1 To perform molecular-based clinical diagnostic tests on a wide range of sample types, including but not limited to blood, tissues, swabs, stools, and other body fluids so as to maintain daily operations in the Molecular Diagnosis Centre (MDC), according to established operational procedures
1.2 To provide up-to-date molecular testing services to support better patient management in three primary areas: infectious diseases, genetics, and hemato-oncology to customers within the hospital, specialist clinics/hospitals, and private laboratories across the country and the wider region.
1.3 To deliver accurate and timely results to aid clinical decision-making and contribute to the effective management of patient care.
2.0 Duties and Responsibilities
2.1 Primary duties and responsibilities (80%)
2.1.1 Adhere to safety protocols to work with infectious specimens, chemicals, and other hazards.
2.1.2 Receive laboratory specimens, evaluate specimens for acceptability, and follow the established operational procedures for specimens that do not meet acceptance criteria.
2.1.3 Ensure accurate sample order and patient identification.
2.1.4 Process and store specimens according to established operational procedures.
2.1.5 Perform moderate and/or high-complexity molecular-based clinical diagnostic tests/ tasks according to established operational procedures.
2.1.6 Proficient and staying up-to-date on molecular techniques, including but not limited to nucleic acid extractions, polymerase chain reaction (PCR), melting curve analysis, gel electrophoresis, capillary electrophoresis, oligonucleotide hybridisation, microarrays, and next-generation sequencing.
2.1.7 Proficient in the operation, calibration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of state-of-the-art laboratory equipment (including but not limited to nucleic acid extractors, PCR thermal cyclers, DNA sequencers, fluorescence microscopes, liquid handlers, and sample-to-result platforms).
2.1.8 Perform quality control (QC) procedures as specified in established operational procedures and maintain QC records.
2.1.9 Monitor QC and interpret test results as specified in established operational procedures.
2.1.10 Maintain complete documentation for assay tracking and results for review/reporting.
2.1.11 Remain informed of all relevant process and procedure changes.
2.1.12 Assist with the validation, optimisation, and implementation of state-of-the-art technologies for molecular diagnostic testing.
2.1.13 Work with supervisors to review and troubleshoot procedures and project assignments.
2.2 Secondary duties and responsibilities (20%)
2.2.1 Establish and update laboratory manuals.
2.2.2 Maintain results master lists.
2.2.3 Consolidate and periodically review all quality control and laboratory surveillance records.
2.2.4 Conduct CME sessions in area of expertise and demonstrations of bench techniques
2.2.5 Resolve all technical queries within his/her ability, in consultation with the supervisor, seniors, and professional staff.
2.2.6 Participate in the operational support activities necessary to maintain and optimise testing capabilities.
