The Role

We are seeking to employ a suitably qualified and experienced Physical Education teacher to join a dedicated team of professionals in the Infant School. The appointee will be engaged in teaching a range of classes from Nursery to Year 2, contributing to school/curriculum development and participating in the extra-curricular life of the school.

The role reports to the Head of Infant School through the Head of PE (Infant School).


Key Responsibilities

Teaching & Learning

  • Manage an effective, orderly and safe learning environment.
  • Review already formulated medium term planning for Nursery to Year 2 as appropriate.
  • Plan the annual and termly curriculum for each year group in the Infant School according to those Schemes of Work.
  • Deliver the curriculum to assigned classes in accordance with the School’s timetable.
  • Differentiate delivery according to the abilities and learning strategies of individual students.

Planning & Development

  • Contribute to the planning and implementation of curricular and other initiatives according to the
  • school's calendar.
  • Contribute to individual and team tasks and targets for the Infant School Improvement Plan (SIP) and the School’s Self Evaluation Form (SEF).
  • Assist the Junior Head of PE to liaise with Heads of PE in Infants and Seniors to develop continuity
  • and progression in the specialist subject across key stages.
  • Develop cross-curricular links and provide opportunities for students to develop and apply their PE skills.
  • Make a positive contribution to the development of the Infant School.
  • Participate in Review & Development processes to personalise professional learning and maintain
  • an accurate and up to date record of all Professional Development opportunities.
  • Attend relevant professional development sessions to enhance ongoing professional skills
  • and knowledge.
  • As part of Tanglin's commitment to professional development, ise 30 minutes PPA time per term to peer observe colleagues and provide HOY/HOLS with brief, written updates through notes on iPad, which can then be uploaded onto the Monitoring of Teaching & Learning Database.
  • Support the STLAs in developing their professional practice within class/unit and supporting in the Review and Development and Performance Management in accordance with the school's scheme, where relevant to the specialist subject.

Assessment, Recording & Reporting

  • Keep detailed records of plans, and of achievements of individual students; developing, in conjunction with the year group, standardised forms of assessment and record keeping.
  • Report to parents in accordance with the school’s reporting policy as laid down in the Staff Handbook.

Communication & Liaison

  • Liaise with relevant members of the Personalised Learning Team to ensure that all individual student needs are understood, planned for and met.
  • Collaborate effectively with the STLA support staff within the department.
  • Attend and contribute to meetings of a professional nature as and when required.
  • Contribute to the strengthening of the parent-teacher partnership in individual and whole school initiatives as and when required.

Pastoral & Co-Curriculum

  • Follow the school’s policies and procedures with regard to discipline and behaviour, daily routines, duties, home learning, leave of absence, and visits, as laid down in the Staff Handbook.
  • Fulfill supervision roles during lunches and break times.
  • Embrace and lead on the school’s commitment to creating a diverse and inclusive environment.
  • Be responsible for reporting any concerns about a child to the Designated Safeguarding Lead.
