VP, Engineering & Operations is a leadership position for an experienced engineering professional who is not only technology savvy but also possess good business acumen. Established experience in television broadcast engineering and operations with a major international broadcaster or international broadcast service provider is essential with at least a stint as a Head of Department.
The position reports directly to regional Managing Director, requires high level of interaction with Group CTO and your peers of equivalents at other Business Units to align technology and services globally. The VP, Engineering & Operations is head of two key departments: Engineering and Operations. The Engineering Dept includes Broadcast/Teleport Engineering Support, Projects Management / Engineering and IT Admin/Support ; The Operations Dept. includes Master Control Operations, Content Processing Media Services, Technical Operations Centre(TOC), Playout/Channel Operations and Channel Programming.
The VP, Engineering & Operations manages about 8 teams consisting of approximately 90+ staff in various functional and managerial levels and in various countries encompassing technical operations (including managing facilities and cloud infrastructure), engineering & technology, IT(including Network & Security) as well as post-production. Within the team, he oversees technology roadmap, technical personnel, workflow integration and networking, effective customer service, maintenance practices, change control/management and cross training. The individual will be responsible for the management of capital and operating budgets within his care including sourcing processes.
The candidate must be results-oriented and committed to development of emerging technologies. He will be responsible for strengthening the core values of the organization pertaining to customer service and ensure a high level of customer and service oriented culture within the departments. Managing and improving internal workflow processes, improving the performance and efficiency of the technical operation and the business overall is essential.
He manages the region’s relationship with vendors and service suppliers to ensure efficient and coherent technical operation. He is also responsible for company’s computing activities relating to all information systems needs.
The VP, Engineering & Operations is required to establish the company’s technical vision and leads all aspects of the company’s operational and technological development that includes but is not limited to the followings:
- Directs the company’s technological and operational strategic direction, development and future growth. Actively participate in Company’s Transformation projects and initiatives both local and global.
- Alignment of technology and services based on global technical direction of the company.
- Works in a consultative fashion with other department heads, such as Sales and Finance as an advisor of technologies that may improve their efficiency and effectiveness.
- Provide leadership and guidance that supports the company’s culture, mission and values.
- Overseeing the review of mandatory and enforceable operational and reliability standards, as well as ensuring compliance with the approved standards.
- Locating resources internal and external to the organization and getting them to work in a cooperative manner, on time and on budget.
- Maintaining the accuracy of the delivery inventory and resources across multiple media platforms.
- Manage and maintain cost effective, reliable, and appropriate method of operational and engineering procedures and ensure services operating in a zero tolerance-for-defects environment.
- Acts as a good steward of the company’s resources and ensures control of Operations departmental budget.
- Manage the regular(weekly/monthly) service performance review with key customers and follow-up on actions plans with department manager/supervisors under your care.
- Manage the annual budget process for the different departments under his direct reports eg. Infrastructure capex, Virtual environment licenses including cloud opex, operational expenses, travelling, training, IT, etc. Track and report variances.
- Participate intra-company/inter-discipline projects which have technology implications (e.g., New Media services, New Product Business Development, VoD Logistics, Orchestrator etc.) contributing technical expertise and recommending solutions to meet objectives.
- Responsible for cultivating first-hand relationships with vendors, and other industry constituents in order to stay abreast of developments and promote partnerships.
- Assist with long term strategic planning and new technologies research, traffic and facilities scheduling, vendor negotiations, and staff training.
- Reviewing current operating expense statements, analyzing costs and developing new financial structures for technology.
- Negotiating competitive business terms with IT/Cloud vendors and clients, lease cancellations, subleases and contracts for idle delivery assets to leveraged toward future delivery needs.
- Overseeing the development, review, and approval of written procedures necessary to ensure compliance with all standards applicable to company, specifically with relates to ISO270001 or equivalent of compliance with the established standards.
- Active support to Pre-sales activities and promote business objectives.
- Interaction with Sales team for solution evaluation and deliverables.
- Interaction with Finance/Accounts team on verifying invoices, advising payments and recording accurately purchases into accounting systems.
- Interaction with Procurement at HQ for Global contracts and negotiations.
- Interaction with Facility Manager and Admin department on up keeping facility M&E infrastructure and general office systems/facilities.
- Remote location Datacentres/hostings management.
- Follow-up with local Regulators & Government agencies on annual licensing renewals and annual reporting requirements (i.e. iMDA, NEA).
- Regularly/annually work with department managers to review and update the existing BCP and DR plans.
Skills:
1. Minimum 15 years of solid operations and technical background in a broadcast, media services environment & IT/Security & Network systems.
2. Possess strong understanding of broadcast media markets, technology, operational processes & workflows, and business needs/trends.

Minimum training / experience:
1. Specific and intensive broadcast services training and familiarity with tools/equipment used for broadcast systems
2. Minimum ten years working in a senior management level leading a large and diverse team.
