We are looking for a Senior Platform Engineer who is working as a System Engineer with strong Middleware experience. This is a 12 month extendable contract role. You will lead multiple projects within the Technology Infrastructure team of a complex financial organization.
This role involves managing a distributed architecture framework that supports critical J2EE internet and intranet applications. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in technical infrastructure management and engineering, with substantial hands-on experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and build web-based application servers (Weblogic Server/Portal) in a UNIX environment.
- Troubleshoot complex application integration points and coordinate with virtual team members across the enterprise to deliver sophisticated J2EE hosting solutions.
- Manage multiple concurrent projects and adapt readily to change. The role requires self-motivation, strong leadership, the ability to influence others, and creative problem-solving skills.
- Collaborate with application teams on deploying new applications in Weblogic and WebSphere environments. Gather application configuration requirements and facilitate necessary changes with administrators and vendors to resolve technical issues.
- Provide on-call support and be flexible with working hours.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, with 8-10 years of experience as a developer and supporting Middleware products (such as Weblogic, JBoss, Tomcat, IBM HTTP Server, Apache) and web servers.
- Extensive experience with J2EE in large-scale enterprise systems.
- Proficient in scripting languages such as Jython, Python, YAML, and Perl.
- Experience administering Middleware using tools like mDeliver and BladeLogic.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for Middleware products using various diagnostic tools.
- Familiarity with peripheral systems including network, load balancing/workload management, application development, and operating systems, as well as monitoring systems (e.g., Splunk, Introscope, Sitescope).
- Knowledge of industry security baselines.
- Ability to create documentation for troubleshooting, performance optimization, and remediation.
- Clear communication skills for conveying technical concepts to both business and technical management.
- Familiarity with IT Service Management frameworks.
