The A*STAR Skin Research Labs is seeking a motivated and skilled Senior Research Officer to join our Skin Omics group. This position is ideal for an individual with a strong background in synthetic chemistry and a passion for advancing skin health research through innovative science. The successful candidate will contribute to cutting-edge metabolomics research by synthesising bioactive compounds and performing in vitro testing of these bioactives. In addition, the candidate will also have the chance to familiarise themselves with LC-MS/MS-based metabolomics analysis techniques for the study of skin health and disease using state-of-the-art mass spectrometers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and execute the synthesis of novel compounds to support ongoing metabolomics research projects.
- Optimise synthetic routes for target molecules, ensuring high purity and yield.
- Maintain detailed records of synthesis procedures, experimental conditions, and analytical data.
- Conduct in vitro assays to evaluate the biological activity of synthesised compounds.
- Contribute to ongoing metabolomics projects, including biological sample preparation, metabolomics data acquisition and analysis.
- Contribute to project planning, preparation of research reports and publications.
- Present findings at internal meetings and external conferences.
- Ensure compliance with laboratory safety protocols and best practices.
- Maintain laboratory equipment and manage inventory of chemicals and reagents.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemistry, Pharmacy, or a related field.
- Strong background in organic synthesis, with the ability to design and execute multi-step synthetic routes.
- Experience with chromatographic (column chromatography, analytical TLC, and preparative TLC) and spectroscopic techniques (NMR, mass spectrometry) for compound purification and structural elucidation.
- Familiarity with in vitro testing methodologies and techniques.
- Expertise in medicinal chemistry as well as developing and interpreting Structure-Activity Relationship (SAR) data for drug design will be advantageous.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
- Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
