The National Institute of Education invites suitable applications for the position of Research Fellow on a 24-month contract (extension possible) at the Office of Education Research.
Project Title: DRivers, Enablers and pathways of Adolescent developMent in Singapore (DREAMS)
Project Introduction: This project (Project 5) is part of the larger DRivers, Enablers, and pathways of Adolescent developMent in Singapore (DREAMS), an ongoing 4-year MOE-commissioned project. Secondary school students across Singapore will be taking part in this study, which seeks to better understand students' experiences and development in childhood and adolescence.
The DREAMS study seeks primarily to understand (a) the nature of educational pathways made by students through secondary education, (b) the drivers of the decisions made about educational pathways through secondary education (especially self-identity and agency, school and career aspirations, and social and relational contexts), (c) the stability and change patterns of educational pathways as well as factors that may be associated with change. We expect the drivers of educational pathways to be interrelated, and (d) through retrospective investigation, the factors at early childhood and primary school that contribute to educational pathways. Furthermore, this study will allow focus on educational pathways of specific subgroups to understand the differential impact of educational pathways for (e) students with special educational needs (SEN) and (f) for students from financially disadvantaged environments.
Project 5 of DREAMS is focused on understanding the factors at early childhood and primary school that contribute to educational pathways and developmental outcomes. Key constructs include self-regulation and well-being.
Requirements:
- PhD in Applied Psychology (preferred), Education, or related fields
- Strong background in Psychology and/or Child Development
- Ability to conduct independent research
- Good communication, and management skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Experience in empirical research, particularly research design, empirical methodologies, and scholastic writing of journal articles
- Excellent quantitative data analytic skills
- Proficient in software such as R, SPSS, and Mplus
- Experience with project management and grant application is desirable
- Experience with publications is desirable
Responsibilities:
- Manage and oversee project operations
- Oversee and assist with participant recruitment, liaisons, and data collection
- Oversee and assist with compilation, processing, and analysis of data collected
- Support the preparation of presentation, progress and final reports, and manuscripts related to the projects
- Liaise with external organization/institutions
- Administrative work related to the project
- Other duties as assigned by the Principal Investigator
