Accountant (Shipping)
An exciting opportunity to join the Accounting team of a leading European ship owner/manager This role reports to the Senior Manager of Accounting.
Key Accountabilities
- Reviews the monthly financials for all vessels and investment holding companies under the Group, to enhance efficiencies around accounting and reporting function within the group.
- Receives, reviews, analyses and monitors periodical management reports, quarterly forecasts and annual budgets from assigned entities and functions for their operations regarding all operational areas under his/her responsibility and coordinates as necessary.
- Reviews financial statements other accounting reports and ensures that they are timely and accurately prepared, in accordance with the accounting standards to ensure compliance with SFRS and group reporting policies.
- Coordinates taxation with local tax authorities to ensure the accurate and timely provision of all the required tax returns and financial statements to local authorities to secure the compliance of the company with the local legislation.
- Participate in the execution of external and internal audits, providing all the required information to the auditors, to facilitate their accurate and fast execution. Monitors and follows up on the results of the external audits, to protect company’s interests.
- Ensures timely execution of payments, to comply with payment obligations and contractual agreements. Monitors and controls accurate execution of payments due and identifies potential discrepancies, while liaises with Manila team for resolution of payment, thus supporting the enhancement of the company’s cash flow. Co-ordinate with banks on day to day matters.
- Reviews the periodic accounts receivables and accounts payables reports of the assigned entities, raises issues and proposes appropriate action plans.
- Ensures that all stakeholders receive routine and ad-hoc financial statements and accounting reports according to the requirements.
Requirements
Education & Qualifications
- University degree and above in Finance or Accounting or equivalent
- Professionally qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CPA) would be an advantage
Work Experience
- Minimum 5 years of experience for qualified accountants
- Minimum 8 years of experience in a related field for non-qualified accountants
Job-Specific Skills
- Experience in shipping industry will be preferred
- Knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems
- Ability to analyses financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and projections.
- Advanced analytical and conceptual thinking
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Knowledge of the local / regional maritime market conditions
- Very good people management skills
- Willing to travel
