Due to clinic expansion, Westside Emergency has full-time and part-time positions for VETERINARY surgical nurses to join our hard-working, close-knit team that is dedicated to the best possible patient outcomes.

The successful applicant will be working closely with a surgical specialist veterinarian in a newly established surgical department.

The hospital is staffed with an outstanding team of emergency veterinarians and nurses working together to provide evidence-based, gold-standard veterinary emergency and critical care. Westside Emergency is well equipped with digital radiology, ultrasound, endoscope, in-house laboratory, patient monitors, and sophisticated emergency and surgical facilities.

Our nursing team is highly valued and encouraged to utilize their skills and work autonomously to support our emergency veterinarians in providing exceptional patient care.


Role:

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to;

  • Admission & registration of surgery patients
  • Liasing with clients to schedule surgical appointments
  • Performing diagnostics and treatments for pre and post op patients
  • Scrubbing in with surgeries
  • Plan and perform anesthesia for patients
  • Record all care information concisely and accurately
  • Addressing clients' pre and post op concerns
  • Prepare and maintening surgical equipment and surgical tools in pristine condition.
  • Work directly under the guidance and support of veterinarians, inventory management staff and senior nurses
  • Liaise knowledgeably and accurately with staff and clients.

About you

We are searching for an experienced veterinary nurse who possesses the ability to multitask and work well as a team in an often fast-paced environment. Referral hospital and orthopedic surgical nursing experience is preferable, but a strong general practice background is also looked highly upon. On-the-job training will be provided with ongoing support by senior nurses and veterinarians however applicants must possess the ability to work unsupervised as well as demonstrate reasonable proficiency in basic nursing skills such as intravenous catheter placement, fluid therapy, drug dose calculations, use of monitoring equipment and assessing vital signs, as the role involves a degree of autonomy and use of initiative.


Essential Attributes

  • Minimum of 2 years’ full-time experience in veterinary general practice post-qualification is essential
  • Certificate IV or diploma in veterinary nursing or equivalent will be ideal
  • A professional and positive demeanor
  • Ability to work efficiently with initiative in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Well-developed organizational skills
  • Interest in emergency critical care medicine

Desirable attributes

  • Previous experience in an emergency or specialist VETERINARY hospital (but not essential)
