Metta Hospice Care (慈光安宁居家护理中心) is a key service provided by the Metta Welfare Association. As a member of the Singapore Hospice Council and the Asia Pacific Hospice Network, Metta Hospice Care provides free home hospice services to terminally ill patients of all ages and backgrounds.
Since our establishment in June 2000, we have supported over 5,000 patients in maintaining dignity and quality of life during their final phase at home. We care for patients referred by medical institutions and general practitioners, typically those diagnosed with life-limiting illnesses such as cancer and end-stage renal failure.
Our comprehensive care includes medical consultations, nursing assessments, and psychosocial support for both patients and their families, with additional emotional and social support provided by our Social Worker as needed.
As a Staff Nurse, the candidate is responsible in the following areas:
- To perform home visits to palliative care patients who are being referred
- To perform nursing assessment on the patients.
- To initiate nursing care plan and implement new measures of management.
- To adjust current medication to achieve maximum symptom control under doctor’s instruction
- To work closely with the Medical Director/Outsourced doctors on the cases.
- To educate caregivers/families on basic nursing procedures to ensure comfort and care
- To refer patients to other professional bodies such as inpatient hospice when the need arises for symptom control or respite care.
- To identify patients and families in need of financial assistance and refer to social worker/counsellor.
- To identify patients and families in need of specialized counseling to the relevant professionals.
- To prepare families for approaching death.
- To provide family with the emotional and bereavement support when necessary
Other Responsibilities
- To participate in Fund raising activities when the need arises.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 3 years of related experience.
- Diploma or degree in Nursing or equivalent, with a Nursing Certificate in Palliative Care.
- Registered with the Singapore Nursing Board.
