ROLE OVERVIEW
Johnson & Johnson is recruiting for a Head of Executive Communications and Employee Engagement to position the company, its Company Group Chairman (CGC) and key members of the regional leadership team, and lead the design of a holistic employee engagement experience in the region. This critical role will be responsible for creating high-impact opportunities to tell the J&J MedTech APAC story, defining the narrative, positioning executives in appropriate communication channels and partnering with colleagues throughout the world to help drive creative ideas and execute game-changing communications campaigns, to effectively engage our internal and external stakeholders. In addition, this role will be leading highly impactful employee communication activities for the region to engage our over 10,000 team members in the business and build J&J Employer Brand to attract the best talent in the markets.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead the APAC MedTech narrative and communications platforms:
- Drive the J&J MedTech narrative that expresses our critical contribution to individual health, solving major illness, improving health care systems and increasing economic vitality
- Establish strategic annual plan for MedTech APAC leaders, identifying and targeting key communications platforms to build and enhance reputation
- Define core platforms for CGC and key regional leadership team members to “own” and be ruthless in prioritizing these topics and opportunities over others
- Understand and align business, enterprise and functional priorities to address and respond to business needs with regards to the leaders’ communication platforms and the Company’s overarching executive leadership strategy
- Lead end-to-end campaigns about our leadership’s presence, community engagement and key business drivers, leveraging events, paid media, earned media and social media platforms
- Design and lead highly impactful and effectively employee communications activities at the regional level to best engage our employees at all levels by creating compelling stories on innovative communication channels
- Prepare the CGC (and other key regional leadership team members) for all venues, helping to bring to life key messages and leadership platform objectives
- Bring expertise in influencing a regional employee communications team that works across countries to deliver aligned and coordinated messages through highly impactful initiatives and engaging touchpoints
Ensure an integrated approach to executive leadership across the region:
- Partner across communications teams to ensure executive leadership platforms complement each other and drive enhanced connectivity between our thought leadership platforms
- Build ‘bench strength’ within MedTech APAC leadership to be able to represent the company – via presentation, storytelling and media engagement coaching
- Identify external opportunities for the CGC and other leadership team members to represent J&J MedTech as an industry leader on critical issues and topics
- Leverage the CGC’s strategic platforms and the right digital and live platforms to reach J&J MedTech APAC’s stakeholder groups
- Forge and maintain a network of partnerships across business-based teams, Global Corporate Affairs and other internal stakeholders, that ensures the CGC’s preparedness and proactive approaches to global issues
- Ensure all employee communications initiatives are well designed to serve the purpose and voices of the executives are highly cohesive across the regional and key markets
Review, advise and execute creative social media activations and content creation for the APAC CGC:
- Drive development of creative, connected and disruptive social media content for the CGC, in line with global policy and guidelines
- Ensure consistent messaging, focusing on approved core topics to position the CGC as a thought leader in the industry and in the region
- Guide the CGC on when and how to participate in influential social media activations linked to core topics
- Consider paid and earned opportunities to unify messaging and positioning
- Maintain strong understanding of current industry, thought leadership, social media, and health policy trends affecting the MedTech APAC reputation, franchises and brands
Be a curious, creative, globally minded and culturally relevant leader:
- Be able to advise our leaders on opportunities and issues that arise and work with the global team to identify opportunities and protect our reputation proactively
- Have global and regional experience and be able to work with key stakeholders on key positioning opportunities
- Be comfortable with ambiguity and create opportunities while bringing along a matrixed team
Qualifications
Education:
- Minimum: Bachelor’s degree
Experience and Skills:
- Minimum 15 years experience in employee communications and executive communication support with a focus on reputation-building work
- Knowledge of J&J or healthcare industry with a track record in supporting global or regional senior executive communications is value added
- Successful in connecting and naviagting in a matrixed environment
- Demonstrated ability to produce excellent results in a high pressure, high visibility role
- Exceptional writing ability and proven expertise in executive communication, including speechwriting and presentation development is required
- Deep understanding of major trends, challenges and opportunities in the external environment, including the health care industry, government policy, technology and data transformation, human demographics and behavior and geopolitical influences
- Self-directed with proven project management skills, excellent judgment and demonstrated ability to lead in ambiguity and bring people together to solve complex problems
- Demonstrated ability to lead in a complex crisis or issues
- Expertise in obtaining, analyzing and synthesizing information – demonstrating exceptional reasoning and critical thinking
- Ability to engage, influence and lead with all levels of leadership
- Strong desire to be an effective and supportive team member and to contribute proactively to group success
- Political campaign or key social media leadership experience is valuable
- Journalism experience of high profile global or regional media outlets is a bonus
- Experience in a highly regulated environment is valuable
