The English Language and Literature Department (ELL) at the National Institute of Education (NIE), Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, invites qualified applicants to apply for the Assistant Professor / Associate Professor position in the area of English Language and Literacy Education (Primary level /Young learners), with a preference for candidates with research and teaching experience in multilingual settings. Requirements
Applicants should minimally satisfy the following criteria:
· a PhD or EdD qualification in the area of English Language and Literacy education from a university of good international standing
(applicants who are nearing completion of their doctoral studies will be considered but PhD/EdD must be in hand for the appointment);
· an established track record of academic research, presentations, relevant publications in reputable peer-reviewed international journals in the area of English Language and Literacy at the primary level/for young learners and preferably within multilingual settings;
· an established record of excellent teaching and supervision in relevant areas at undergraduate or graduate levels (preferably both); and
· demonstrate academic leadership and service in their university and department, and in the profession.
Additional requirements for Associate Professor:
· Excellent track record as an Assistant/Associate Professor in reputable universities;
· An excellent record in securing and managing competitive grants, producing impactful research results, and engaging in innovative, collaborative research pursuits; and
· Good international network of scholarly collaborators.
The following are preferred qualifications/experiences for the position:
- Experience as an English language/literacy teacher in K-12 settings; and
- Experience as teacher or teacher educator in multilingual settings.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to:
· contribute to teaching and course development at the undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as related activities such as supervision of teaching practice, and thesis supervision and examination;
· develop a robust research agenda and maintain a strong publication record;
· undertake administrative and/or leadership roles and to contribute to other service-related activities at the department or institution level;
· establish partnerships with local and international researchers and practitioners to explore avenues for research and teaching that will create an impact in the discipline and/or educational practice; and
· (For Associate Professor level) mentor junior faculty members and serve in NIE / NTU committees, and offer professional services to schools, to the Singapore Ministry of Education, and to other public education-related organizations if requested.
