Associate Director, eDiscovery & Data Advisory

Job Summary

SCB is recruiting a Specialist to join its eDiscovery & Data Advisory (eDDA) team, a part of the Bank’s Legal group. The successful candidate will be based in Singapore and will join an experienced, globally distributed, highly collaborative team of data, forensic and legal experts that provides eDiscovery and data advisory expertise to support investigations and legal disputes across the Bank.

To be successful in this role, you must have 2+ years’ hands-on experience delivering core work across the right side of the Electronic Discovery Reference Model (EDRM) and have 5+ years’ total experience delivering and/or managing eDiscovery work.

As the ideal candidate, you should have demonstrable digital investigative experience, the accompanying investigative mindset and will have opportunity to demonstrate and further develop these skills whilst working closely with the Bank’s investigators, your eDDA team colleagues and other relevant stakeholders.

Your primary matter portfolio will consist of those supporting the Employee Relations function which is responsible for leading the Bank’s HR employment matters. You will be expected to contribute outside of our primary project portfolio when able to do so.

You must be well rounded and need to both understand how to use the latest technology to design and deliver eDiscovery workflows whilst being able to independently lead an eDiscovery review for eDDA stakeholders. Your breadth and understanding of eDiscovery and its related applications to the Legal space will be key to be successful in this role.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy
Coordinating our internal and external parties, executing data collections on our systems, managing Relativity eDiscovery platforms, drafting document review protocols.

Business

• Build and maintain an effective and constructive relationship with all key business and functional stakeholders that is based on trust, capability, and integrity, providing timely, responsive, and quality support to enable the Bank to achieve its strategic objectives.
• Independently deliver the Legal functions eDiscovery for Investigation and Legal matters
• Maintain and develop relationships with all key functional stakeholders, ensuring that the Legal function’s requirements are aligned with the wider bank policy
• Provide timely advice to Legal colleagues on aspects of relevant legal discovery and disclosure frameworks.
• Support the Head of eDiscovery Operations & Analytics, in ensuring the function remains aligned to the relevant Risk Management Framework
• Work with our external service providers to execute time-sensitive managed document review.
• Support the development and growth of the function by acting as a trusted and experienced mentor.
• Be ‘client facing’ and prepared to interface with our external partners including external counsel, employees, law enforcement and regulatory bodies.

Processes

• Be responsible for the adherence and development of eDiscovery risk controls, ensuring the defensibility of all phases of the eDiscovery lifecycle.
• Assist the relevant LCS colleagues in the development of proportionate eDiscovery and Legal data review methodologies by providing expert solutions and defensible recommendations.
• Challenge and influence internal / external stakeholders on approach that should be taken.
• Execute data collections from the Banks systems in a quality controlled and documented manner.
• Provide specialist data minimisation techniques that ensure eDiscovery matters are managed in a cost-effective manner.
• Ensure eDiscovery is carried out in accordance with all legal and regulatory requirements.
• Be responsible for the technical management and utilisation of eDiscovery technology solutions (e.g., Relativity) and provide training to other members of the function when required.
• Support the Head of eDiscovery, Operations & Analytics, in collation of MI, ensuring relevant management information and key performance indicators are provided to all key internal stakeholders.

• Be responsible for the technical management and utilisation of eDiscovery technology solutions (e.g., Relativity) and providing training to other members of the function when required.

Risk Management
• Apply all relevant Group, Country, Business or Functional policies and procedures to manage risks.
• Undertake periodic self-assessment on key controls to assess the proper functioning and adequacy of existing controls.

Governance
• Act to minimise operational loss, audit failures, and take proactive measures to respond to matters arising.
• In the event of serious regulatory breaches, or where risk tolerances have been breached, ensure senior management are informed and that actions are taken quickly to remediate and/or activities are ceased

Regulatory & Business Conduct

• Display exemplary conduct and live by the Group’s Values and Code of Conduct.
• Take personal responsibility for embedding the highest standards of ethics, including regulatory and business conduct, across Standard Chartered Bank. This includes understanding and ensuring compliance with, in letter and spirit, all applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and the Group Code of Conduct.
• Effectively and collaboratively identify, escalate, mitigate, and resolve risk, conduct and compliance matters.

Qualifications

· 5+ years’ hands-on experience in an eDiscovery or Legal role and working with platforms such as Relativity Nuix (Ringtail), Axelerate or Autonomy

· Experience in independently managing large Legal or Investigation eDiscovery matters

· Demonstrable experience in being able to work independently and collaborate with team members globally.

· RelativityOne Certified Pro – Ideal candidate has sufficient skills to pass or has already passed.

Role Specific Technical Competencies

· Advanced experience across the entire Electronic Data Reference Model (“EDRM”) including a strong understanding of eDiscovery concepts and the adoption and utilisation of technology.

· Advanced proficiency with desktop computing applications (MS Windows, MS Excel and data loading tools).

· Advanced proficiency in stakeholder / client management via communication and interpersonal skills - both written and verbal, including a demonstrated ability to translate technical concepts to a wider audience.

· Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
