The successful candidate will play a leadership role in the Marine Infrastructure division, working closely with the Director of Research to spearhead initiatives that contribute to TCOMS" strategic R&D programmes and projects, especially projects relating to offshore wind.
Key responsibilities include:
1. Research & Development:
o Lead and conduct research on fluid (wind/wave/current) - structure interactions relevant to Marine, Offshore, and Coastal Engineering.
o Develop and implement physics informed data-driven models with data assimilation, especially for complex offshore systems such as floating offshore wind.
o Apply reduced-order modeling to expedite computation and achieve near real-time predictions.
2. Experimental & Simulation Work:
o Provide insights in the design and execution of physical model tests, field experiments, and numerical simulations.
o Support the development of integrated physical-numerical modeling and simulation frameworks.
3. Collaboration & Proposal Development:
o Contribute to the preparation of grant and business proposals that align with the strategic goals of TCOMS.
o Work closely with industry partners, affiliated research institutes, and other stakeholders.
4. Additional Duties:
o Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Job Requirements:
· PhD in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Coastal Engineering or other related disciplines.
· Relevant research/industry experience with competent knowledge in some of the following areas:
o Marine engineering, hydrodynamics, ocean engineering and coastal engineering.
o Data-driven and reduced order modelling
· Prior knowledge in the following numerical methods/software/programming languages will be an advantage:
o CFD software such as StarCCM+ and OpenFOAM.
o Programming codes such as FORTRAN, Python, MATLAB, C++ or equivalent.
· Strong track records and experience in leading projects involving Deep Learning and Data-driven Predictions in the domain of Marine & Offshore and/or Coastal Engineering.
· Good interpersonal and communications skills.
· Ability to adapt and work effectively as members of a team.
· Good command of written and spoken language.
· Resourceful and self-driven with a high degree of professional integrity.
