Responsibilities
- Collaborates with local logistics teams to ensure smooth customs clearance, addressing import/export queries or issues with freight forwarders, customs brokers, and service providers.
- Provides support for operational queries from various departments such as logistics, regulatory, and sales.
- Maintains records and oversees the accurate reporting, declaration, and closure of entries/tickets/permits, working closely with brokers, finance, and external consultants.
- Conducts periodic reviews and audits of customs documentation
- Determines correct Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) classification and ensures alignment with the Global Classification Team.
- Coordinates with Finance, Manufacturing, and Procurement to gather and analyze data for COO determination.
- Assists in developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) based on relevant governmental regulations for import / export processes.
- Provides training to departments/personnel on compliance with import/export regulations.
- Stays updated on customs regulations and logistics trends
- Identifies opportunities for duty refunds and savings programs.
- Acts as the primary contact for local customs agents/teams regarding customs-related matters.
- Participates in special projects and other assigned duties.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in International Business, Business Administration, Business Information, or a related field.
- More than 5 years of experience in export and import trade compliance.
- Strong communication skills with external parties such as lawyers, brokers, customs officers, and other government representatives.
- Expertise in one or more areas of law such as HTS, Origin, Free Trade Agreements, and Customs Valuation.
- Familiarity with the Harmonized Tariff System (HTS), Customs Valuation, and other Import/Export regulations of Government Agencies.
- Understanding of Rules of Origin, COO determination, and Free Trade Agreements.
- Basic knowledge of accounting principles and indirect taxes.
- Proficient in data analysis and modeling using MS Excel, as well as presentation skills with MS PowerPoint.
- Ability to create and deliver presentations to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience with GTS/SAP is advantageous.
- Preferred experience in India Customs matters.
