Educational Therapist

Working Location: Bukit Batok

Working Hours: 7 am to 4 pm (Mondays to Fridays)

Job responsibilities

1. Evaluation & Assessment

  • Understand students' diverse learning and developmental needs, interests, abilities and potential through observations, diagnoses and discussions (with students, parents and colleagues), and adapt approaches accordingly
  • Identify and prioritise goals for intervention in collaboration with the student/family/caregiver and multi-disciplinary team
  • Formulate plans that are outcome based and relevant to students’ goals through planning, implementing, evaluating and managing interventions

2. Intervention

  • Deliver literacy lessons in a small group setting (approximately 4-5 students in each class)
  • Play an active role in the planning and developing of curriculum and teaching resources / instructional materials that meet the students’ varying needs
  • Work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team with teachers, parents and all stakeholders in providing quality education and care for students. This includes, but is not limited to:

- Implementation of intervention programmes

- Developing and managing resources

- Conducting small group training (for teachers, parents, etc)

  • Assess and monitor the progress of students in their charge
  • Assess and monitor effectiveness of use of intervention programmes for students in their charge
  • Writing and contributing to progress reports of students’ learning progress

3. Service Administration & Management

  • Main inventories of all resources needed, with regular updating.
  • Main records and documentation of assessments, interventions, progress monitoring, etc.
  • Conduct in-house training programmes for internal and external stakeholders (e.g. teachers / parents / caregivers / volunteers).
  • Participate and be involved in curriculum development, creation of resources, developing protocols, clinical guidelines, action research and pilot studies, in conjunction with the Head of Student Support/Principal.

Job Holder requirements and attributes

  • Degree from a recognised university, in any discipline
  • Trained in learning approaches, such as Orton-Gillingham, Lindamood-Bell, and/or other relevant remedial approaches
  • At least 2 year of experience in providing learning support to children with literacy challenges
  • Preferably at least 2 years of teaching experience and/or learning support experience for students at Primary Level
  • Teaching qualifications or equivalent in Special Education is preferred
  • Relevant teaching experience in mainstream schools / Special Education schools / working with children and youth with Autism Spectrum Disorder will be an added advantage
  • Strong command of English (written and spoken)
