Head of Governance & Operations, GEM

How will you contribute:

Critical Functional Knowledge

  • Demonstrates an in-depth understanding of the GEM markets, identifying business opportunities and developing analytics-based strategic plans. Capable of establishing cross-functional and geographic partnerships, driving actionable decisions to achieve both short-term and long-term growth targets, and operational excellence.
  • Exhibits proven interpersonal and leadership skills, effectively influencing and building credibility with Area/Country functional teams and collaborating with them to implement key initiatives.
  • Performance Monitoring and Improvement: Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to track the effectiveness of governance and operational initiatives, continuously identifying areas for improvement.
  • Risk Management: Identify, assess, and mitigate operational business risks, ensuring the resilience and sustainability of emerging market operations.

Critical Business Expertise

  • Possesses robust multi-factorial analysis skills to correlate data and insights, aiding in driving GEM strategies.
  • Demonstrates strong leadership behaviours to influence and drive decision-making, aligned with Takeda Values.

Strategic Governance and Alignment

  • Develop and Maintain Governance Framework: Create and implement a robust governance framework tailored for emerging markets, ensuring compliance with corporate standards
  • Ensure Strategic Alignment: Align governance initiatives with the organization's strategic objectives, ensuring that emerging market operations contribute to the overall corporate vision and mission.
  • Policy Development and Enforcement: Lead the development, communication, and enforcement of policies and procedures that promote effective governance and operational efficiency across all emerging markets.
  • Drive Operational Efficiency: Streamline processes and implement best practices to enhance operational efficiency in emerging markets, ensuring cost-effectiveness and high-quality outcomes
  • Indirectly impacts GEM strategy and P&L business planning.
  • Contributes to the successful implementation of GEM's medium and long-term strategy and vision.

Communication Skills

  • Exhibits excellent downward communication skills to align and influence multiple stakeholders with global and GEM strategy/vision.
  • Demonstrates excellent upward communication skills to influence GEM strategy and engage with functional partners.
  • Lead Cross-Functional Teams: Provide leadership and direction to cross-functional teams, fostering a collaborative environment to achieve strategic and operational goals.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with key stakeholders, including regional and local leadership, to ensure alignment and support for governance and operational initiatives.
  • Talent Development: Mentor and develop a high-performing team, promoting a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.

  • Employs pragmatic use of digital tools to build capabilities and provide deep market and customer insights, valuable for business and strategy planning.
  • Support Market Expansion: Contribute to the strategic planning and execution of market expansion initiatives, leveraging governance and operational expertise to facilitate entry and growth in new markets.
  • Integration of Acquisitions: Lead the integration of acquired entities into the organization's governance framework and operational processes, ensuring seamless transitions and alignment with corporate standards.

Role Requirement

  • Strong knowledge of business and market dynamics at country level in pharmaceutical industry
  • Strong commercial experience across multiple therapeutic areas and / or countries with an in-depth understanding of market dynamics in GEM.
  • Strategic and analytical thinking with enterprise mindset
  • Cross-functional awareness of & working with medical, access, and DDT colleagues at LOC, regional and global level
  • Entrepreneurial and proactive management skills and a "can do attitude” to manage past pace region
  • Committed to talent development and capability building for sustainable growth
  • Proven experiences in business and strategic planning at local/area level
  • Deep knowledge in pharmaceutical industry
  • Local experience in leading complex initiatives, oversight of budgets and key elements of strategic/global projects
  • Ability to think strategically and be able to navigate operational challenges to drive organizational effectiveness
  • Strong business acumen, with appreciation for cross-cultural and cross-functional differences and able to deal with ambiguity effectively
  • Ability to communicate ideas in a persuasive & clear manner and be able to build collaborative relationships in complex cross-functional matrices
  • Capacity to engage and influence broad range of stakeholders (e.g., GEMLT, Areas, LOCs, MCE, GPLS, cross-functional partners across Takeda)
  • Positive mindset with clear focus and understanding of patient and customer needs
  • Good judgment & decision-making skills, with demonstrated success in problem-solving and ability to deal with ambiguity
  • Capacity to manage with influence and develop talent within / across GEM with positive mindset and support of Takeda values / culture
