The Civil Engineer is responsible for providing engineering and administrative coordination for the design, supply, construction and testing of the project. The primary challenge of this position is to ensure the project is completed in a timely and cost effective manner to meet contractual arrangements made with the client. Responsibilities will focus on projects with bulk earth works and civil works.
Key responsibilities and accountabilities
Safety
- Undertake all responsibilities in a safe manner.
- Ensure a safe working condition is present for all employees, contractors and visitors.
- Participate in daily pre-start meetings.
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systems such as job safety analysis, pre-work checklists and risk assessments.
- Comply and have input into safe working procedures.
- Report hazards, incidents and accidents within company guidelines.
- Assist with safety sections for reports, tenders and proposals.
- Actively participate in safety training.
Technical
- Manage interface between Leighton Asia's Electrical/Structural Engineers and Civil design consultants
- Liaise with subcontractors to ensure job is constructed to the drawings, to the customer requirements
- Attend meetings with client taking a lead role on items like bulk earth works and civil works
- Liaise with Client on all technical aspects of the project
- Ensure that the survey of installations throughout the project is conducted in a professional manner with all results being reviewed and accepted as correct with actions coordinated and documented.
- Verification of all Subcontractor earth works and civil works quantities for progress claims
- Assist the Project Manager with compliance to the documentation required under the UGL Management System
- Review and plan the project with the Project Manager to ensure technical aspects of job are clear and to become familiar with contractual arrangements made with client
- Liaise with Construction Manager to ensure job is on schedule
- Provide a focal point for all technical based queries for associated subcontractors/suppliers.
- Provide engineering advice for subcontractors/suppliers
- Liaise with the Project Manager and the Project Planner regarding schedule issues and status of activities
- Prepares with the Quality Manager all Inspection and Test Plans and associated Project Specific Procedures
- Ensure that the quality requirements of the client are adhered to and that company procedures are followed
- Assist the Project Manager with all procurement and purchases of goods and services
- Assessment of risks and hazards involved in tasks, and methods to manage the hazards in order to prevent incidents, injury and damage
- Assist the Project Manager in preparation of monthly reports and also attends the monthly report meetings with Client
- Prepare and circulate the minutes of the monthly meeting with Client

- Propose creation and/or modification of HSSE documents within the management Ensure compliance with all record keeping requirements
- Undertake any adhoc projects, initiatives, tasks as directed by the Construction Manager
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Bachelor of Engineering (Civil/ Structural/ Building)
- RPEQ certification desirable
- AS 9001 Quality Systems knowledge
- Minimum 5 Years’ Experience in project related disciplines
- Strong communication skills (oral & written) including strong negotiation and influencing skills and the ability to establish effective working relationships with a variety of people at different levels both internally and externally.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently to organise and prioritise demands, handle multiple complex tasks simultaneously, set and meet deadlines and follow-through within a fast paced environment with multiple and competing demands
- Proficient skills in computers: MS Word, Excel, Access, email
