Understand the required centre operations and support P / VP / AVP/ LT / ST in centre’s operations Job Responsibilities: CURRICULUM ➢ Communicates with families about the programme’s approach. ➢ Has basic knowledge and ability to set up developmentally appropriate indoor and outdoor learning environments. ➢ Understand and demonstrate the rationale for selecting and arranging materials and equipment and make adaptations when required. ➢ Engages children in an active process of exploring materials and equipment. ➢ Identify ways to modify the schedule according to individual children’s needs and requirements. ➢ Initiates strategies based on knowledge of children’s interests, needs and temperament. ➢ Understand and facilitates child-initiated and adult-facilitated activities and interactions. ➢ Demonstrates warm, positive, nurturing, and respectful interactions with children. ➢ Identify a variety of positive guidance techniques. ➢ Engage children in an active process of exploring materials and equipment. ➢ Support children’s learning by allowing them time to grasp concepts or practice skills and responding to them in meaningful ways. ➢ Recognise the importance of observing and documenting children’s learning. ➢ Contributes ongoing observations to understand children’s behaviour, maintaining confidentiality. ➢ Observe children’s relationships and is aware of their involvement with each other. CONNECTING WITH FAMILIES ➢ Maintains confidentiality and ensures privacy on communications and data about families and colleagues. ➢ Shares information and relevant resources with families about the curriculum, children’s daily activities and their progress on a regular basis. ➢ Build and sustains respectful relationship with families that capitalise on families’ strength and capacities. CENTRE OPERATIONS ➢ Demonstrate the ability to work cooperatively effectively with colleagues, children, families and others. ➢ Follows staff roster and class timetable. ➢ Support the vision, mission and core values of the centre. ➢ Aware of facility requirement and report maintenance issue to RO. ➢ Demonstrate commitment to provide quality care and education for the children. ➢ Recognises the importance of supporting diverse needs of children through positive partnership with families. HEALTH AND SAFETY ➢ Ensure Champs safety in all areas and activities. Eg: Champs are to be supervised at all times. ➢ Ensure all Champs hygiene at all times. Eg: Proper hand washing and food handling habits. ➢ Ensures classroom adheres to safety and hygiene regulations. Eg: Hygiene items are accessible, classroom is free from hazards. ➢ Report any damage/safety hazards in classroom to VP / P. ➢ To ensure cleanliness in all parts of the centre ➢ To lead class during any fire evacuation exercise and ensure that all Champs are accounted for. ➢ Menu is displayed. ➢ Food allergies of individual child are displayed prominently. ➢ Staff are patient with messiness slow eater are given time to finish food, children are encouraged to eat independently. ➢ Staff and children observe good hygiene practices. ➢ Proper hands washing with soap after toileting, before/after meals and ➢ after outdoor and art activities. ➢ Proper sanitary procedures are observed during diaper changing. ➢ Staff wash their hands before/after diaper changing. ➢ Soiled diapers are properly disposed in a covered bin. ➢ Children are supervised at all times. ➢ Children are within sight, hearing and easy reach of staff Eg: Staff quickly get materials from cupboard in room) ➢ Staff’s attention is on care giving responsibilities, not on other tasks or interests. ➢ Power points are out of children’s reach or rendered harmless. ➢ There are proper storage facilities for play equipment; more than 2 staffs are present during outdoor play. ➢ Safety gates are latched at all times. ➢ Ensure that administration of medicine forms are updated and filled. ➢ Children suffering from infections/ communicable diseases return to centre upon expiry of medical certification and are well (No symptoms of the illness). ➢ Children’s personal effects such as toothbrushes and mugs, mattress covers and combs are labelled and well maintained. ➢ Contact information of parents / guardians and medical information of children are up-to-date and readily available. HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT ➢ Know the expectations of one’s job description and is familiar with the organisation’s personnel policies such as performance management, wages, benefits contact. Job Requirements: ➢ Diploma in Early Childhood Care & Education - Teaching (DECCE-T) ➢ Creative and inspiring with loving energy ➢ Excellent communication and classroom management skills ➢ Be familiar with all working curriculum documents, handbooks and policy manuals. ➢ Knowledge in educational development / cognitive psychology ➢ Bilingual in English & Chinese
