About the Role
- The Fleet Accountant’s role is part of the accounting services provided to the vessel owners.
- The role manages vessel financial records, crew payroll, budgets, and funding requests, ensuring compliance and accuracy in all vessel-related financial matters.
- Role is responsible for monthly reporting to owners, all vessels funding position and overall coordinator for vessel reporting
Responsibilities
1) Financial Record, Keeping & Reporting
- Maintain an accurate and complete set of accounts for assigned vessels, adhering to the international financial reporting standards or other standard or such other standard based on owner jurisdiction.
- Prepare vessel reports, including ad-hoc reports upon request from vessel owners, ensuring accuracy and compliance with the relevant standards.
- Validate all expense with supporting documents and owner prior approval is obtained for unbudgeted cost.
- Facilitate inspection and audits of financial records by vessel owners or their representatives, ensuring transparency and compliance.
- Handle portage bill accounting
2) Crew Payroll
- Managing payroll for crew members ensuring accurate and timely payment of crew wages etc.
- Liaison with crew members and overseas manning offices to ensure the crew data accuracy in term of sign on/off date, payroll details with correct supporting documents, verification of wages with approved wage scale.
- Handle monthly allotment, ad-hoc allotment and balance of wages settlement
3) Budget Settlement
- Ensure timely fund requests to vessel owners as per Ship Management Agreements
- Timely reconciliation on the vessel running cost, unbudgeted and owner cost to avoid funding delays.
- Coordinate with the Account Payable team to allocate funds appropriately for their intended purposes.
4) Budget Management

5) Communication and Collaboration
- Collaborate effectively with technical, operations, crew, and procurement departments to communicate vessel financial matters to vessel owners.
- Work closely with crew and procurement departments to ensure to ensure timely and accurate accounting of all commitments.
Job Experience / Skills
- Minimum 3 years of experience in accounting with at least 1 year in Ship Management industry
- Good analytical skills and financial sense to evaluate the financial impact on different actions.
- Able to understand accounting processes and management requirement.
- Possess strong excel skill in analysing data and report preparation
- Oracle ERP accounting system & Smart Pal knowledge
Other Qualifications / Soft Skills
- Meticulous, able to prioritize the job and drive to deliver results promptly with minimum supervision and guidance.
- Good interpersonal skills to work closely with operational team.
- Able to multi-task and to adapt in a fast-paced changing environment.
- At least a Diploma in Finance or Accounting / Professional Qualification in Finance or Accounting.
