Job Description
The role
We're looking for a strong Japanese-speaking Underwriter with a background in payments and/or
financial analysis to join our Singapore team. You will be part of a team that is responsible for
underwriting enterprise customer applications with a focus on analysis relevant to Due Diligence,
Credit Exposure and enhanced Financial Analysis. This role offers a unique exposure to our core
business areas, collaborating closely with our key internal players (Business Development, Sales, Risk,
Legal teams and Top Management) and our high value merchants and partners.
How you'll make an impact
● Leveraging experience, you will conduct a financial risk analysis of Japanese, APAC and
global deals in-line with internal policy guidelines, and apply complex evaluation techniques
to achieve the desired results for complex deals.
● Contributing to wider Merchant Risk activities for our Japanese merchants, you will be our
key Merchant Risk representative for our Japanese merchant portfolio
● Conduct proficient analysis of P&L, balance sheet and cash flow statements of complex
business models and demonstrate a competent understanding of accounting principles
● Competent in underwriting high risk lines of business including travel, subscriptions,
ticketing and events, securities dealers, gambling, amongst others
● Prepare persuasive summaries to assess micro and macro risks, mitigants and make balanced
recommendations to present to management and the Credit Risk Committee
● Represent Underwriting in attending customer calls and meetings alongside Sales or Account
Management
● Approve teammates’ credit submissions in line with delegated approval authority
● Identify operational issues and areas for improvement, and make detailed recommendations
on how to improve the merchant onboarding experience
● Preferable if candidate possesses industry expertise, and can act as a subject matter expert in a
particular industry(ies)
● Foster a culture of collaboration with key internal stakeholders, in particular Sales, and first
and second line Risk personnel and Legal
● Act as a mentor to junior team members through training initiatives and credit approvals
● Contribute to Underwriting driven projects as required

● Fluency in Japanese and English is a must
Experience you will bring to the role
● Work in a team that uses qualitative and quantitative targets to measure performance
● Demonstrable experience related to merchant underwriting, credit insurance and/or
commercial lending
● Knowledge and understanding of the Japanese market
● Expert level financial statement analysis and credit exposure assessment ability
● Experience with concise written and oral presentations, and ability to deliver complex
messages in a clear and focused manner
● A highly analytical team player who loves to evaluate financial and business risks
● Domain expertise within the payments industry will be preferable
