Demurrage Specialist

We are looking for a meticulous and committed Demurrage Specialist for one of our global shipping clients. The candidate will be responsible for assisting the department in collection of demurrage, freight and hires for all fleet vessels, including charter-in & out tonnages. The ideal candidate should have at least 5 years of relevant experience in a similar role.


Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee the proper handling of demurrage claims related to vessel employment.
  • Accurately calculate, prepare, and submit demurrage invoices in line with Charter Party (CP) terms, ensuring prompt delivery.
  • Actively engage Charterers to expedite the settlement of demurrage claims.
  • Comprehend Charter Party clauses relevant to demurrage recovery and the fundamental operational activities that support such claims.
  • Calculate and issue invoices for freight and/or time charter hire, as well as other claims associated with vessel employment.
  • Ensure all claims and revenues are raised according to CP terms within the allowed time frame.
  • Handle the issuance and collection of freight payments upon the vessel's completion of discharge.
  • Verify and process miscellaneous claims as per CP terms.
  • Prepare and submit external Time Charter Hire In/Out and Charterer's items.
  • Generate external Bareboat Hire invoices and manage the processing of Time Charter/Bareboat Charter (TC/BBC) invoices for vessels.
  • Organize and maintain records of all claims and collections within the company's approved system.
  • Provide regular reports on the status of freight, hire, demurrage, and miscellaneous claims.
  • Assist the department in improving interdepartmental processes to ensure efficiency.
  • Handle brokerage commission and commercial fees payments using IMOS and EBS.
  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of the quality management system within the department.
  • Collaborate effectively with Chartering, Operations, Finance, Insurance, and other departments to ensure efficient claims processing


Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in any discipline
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience
  • Strong numeracy and written skills
  • Possessing commercial acumen
  • Good working knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint
  • Exposure to Shipping IT system such as VESON IMOS, Oracle
