Our client is a UK MNC chemical manufacturing company located at the West side of Singapore. They are looking for a R&D Project Chemist with experience in industrial project management and possess strong chemical synthesis knowledge to join the team.
Job scope:
- Contribute to development and deployment of relevant occupational health and safety practices.
- Initiate, design and execute new chemical synthesis programs at laboratory level to produce monomers and/or polymers new to company.
- Creation of thorough, risk assessed technology transfer documentation for new process scale up from laboratory onto pilot plant and/or full-scale plant.
- Take an “orchestration” role in close liaison with all other functions within the company (and potentially at external manufacturing providers) that become involved with the new product and process development activity at any point from ideation to full scale commercial production.
- Comply with the recently created NPD Team Charter, associated values and cascading procedures and ways of working including the following:
➢ Stage and Gate based project management and implementation.
➢ Planning and recommending experimental matrix design, results recording, interpreting and
reporting in compliance with cross-department consistency requirements.
- Analytical method development and testing of raw material, intermediates and finished product in liaison with the QC department and external analysis providers.
- Assist in the maintenance of R&D, production and quality documentation.
- Maintain day to day operation of the R&D lab equipment.
Job requirements:
- BSc/Honours degree in polymer chemistry/synthetic organic chemistry with minimum 5 years of relevant industrial experience.
- Experience of operating analytical equipment including but not limited to GPC, HPLC, GC and interpreting resulting spectra and chromatographs.
- Demonstrable experience in leading projects from ideation to commercialisation, orchestrating contributing human resources, setting and meeting milestone deadlines, managing and reporting to project stakeholders, understanding and meeting regulatory and safety requirements, managing project budgets and obtaining project stakeholder approvals for deviation, when needed for project budgets/timelines.
- Able to logically predict trends and outcomes, design experimental programs to certify or dismiss then systematically interpret experimental conclusions to deploy learnings in further experimental optimisation.
- Experience transferring own laboratory developed processes to an external manufacturing provider and providing project leadership of the transfer and scale up by the third party.
- Experience in and knowledge of acrylate, methacrylate and organosilicons monomer purification, polymerisation reactions and other relevant or adjacent chemical fields.
- Occasional travel related to R&D and training.
