Job description
· Perform research in the following areas relating to coastal protection and adaptation to climate change, such as:
o Wave attenuation over mangroves, seagrasses, and coral reefs.
o Modelling and simulation of breaking waves and the associated turbulence.
o Modelling and simulation of waves interacting with bottom fixed or floating systems for coastal protection.
· Assist in planning and executing physical modelling and simulations.
· Assist in conducting numerical modelling and simulations using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) or other relevant tools.
· Collaborate with industry partners, affiliated research institutes and other relevant stakeholders to contribute to grant proposals for research funding consistent with the strategic goals of TCOMS.
· Any other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Job Requirements
· PhD Degree in Civil Engineering, Coastal engineering, or other related disciplines.
· 2 years of experience
· Prior experience/knowledge of the following software/programming languages will be preferred:
o CAD software such as SolidWorks, Rhino, and/or AutoCAD
o CFD tools such as OpenFOAM, and/or StarCCM+
o Hydrodynamic analysis tools such as SESAM, OrcaFlex and/or WAMIT
o Data analysis tools such as MATLAB
o Programming languages such as python, C++ and/or FORTRAN
· Experience with model tests in wave flumes or basins, including experimental design, model setup, sensing and data acquisition, will be an advantage.
· Good interpersonal and communications skills.
· Ability to adapt and work effectively as members of a team.
· Resourceful and self-driven with a high degree of professional integrity.
