The Marketing Product Strategy Department is at the forefront of driving the company's mission to maximize global cash flow through innovative software asset IP management schemes.

Role and Responsibilities:


In your role as Vice Manager for Rakuten Web Search, you will lead the project and engineering teams to deliver software that are in line with our overarching goals. A pivotal aspect of your position involves overseeing the project management and delivery of software for Rakuten Web Search.


This role demands strong engagement with our Japanese counterparts and might require you to undertake frequent trips or short-term residencies in Japan during your first year. This is to ensure a comprehensive onboarding process and to build a rapid and deep understanding of our stakeholder landscape, setting the stage for future strategic influence.


Core Responsibilities:

  • Provides technical and engineering leadership to the engineering teams, ensuring coherent technical solutions are designed and delivered.
  • Ensures appropriate engineering approaches, methodologies, tools and processes are applied in the development of solutions so that potential deviations are identified early and appropriate actions applied.
  • Continually identifies and assesses critical expertise to ensure the Engineering team is optimally staffed with the right mix of various skills and expertise levels to meet business needs. Help in hiring, training and mentoring of other team members to build a strong team.
  • Responsible for engineering related reports to different stakeholders. Drive projects from initiation to closure. Manage projects, scope and costs and keep the stakeholders informed.
  • Strong business acumen underpinning technical excellence. Able to understand business complexity and problems and provide technical solutions to the business stakeholders.
  • Organizational Management: Oversee the organizational structure, including tasks related to people management like recruitment, hiring, and development of team members.

Qualifications:

  • At least 10 years of related engineering experience with minimum 5 years in leading and managing a sizeable engineering team.
  • Customer focused and team player with strengths in the areas of team building, leadership communication, staff development and mentoring.
  • Significant engineering experience from a complex Systems engineering organization with extensive knowledge of hardware and software sub-systems. Track record of delivering complex engineering projects.
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplined and multi-cultural environment with teams and partners located across multiple geographies.
  • A strategic thinker who confidently solves highly complex problems with informed, timely and decisive decision making.
