A Senior/Principal Process Development Engineer is responsible for developing or overseeing the development of chemical processes including low carbon processes as well as monitoring, troubleshooting and optimizing processes in a pilot plant leading up to a technology transfer. He/she will perform process design, engineering and scale-up of in a Low-Carbon Technology Translational Testbed (LCT3) on Jurong Island leading up to a technology transfer. This role requires good understanding and knowledge of the underlying key process/chemical engineering and scientific principles of low carbon technologies and uses computer aided engineering tools such as simulators, process and plant engineering tools for process development and engineering. This individual thinks analytically to solve problems and improve existing methods and processes.
Key Accountabilities
- Responsible for providing scientific and technical direction and/or development, design, and scale up of carbon capture, utilisation and low carbon hydrogen technologies
- Responsible for developing new projects, including timelines, milestones, methodological approaches, expected results and necessary resources.
- Responsible for the executing or planning/directing of laboratory-based or pilot-based experiments to support process development, scale-up campaigns and process optimisation leading up to technology transfer
- Lead or support multi-disciplinary team of scientist and engineers through technical challenges and contribute to the successful completion of projects
- Supervise and mentor junior process development scientists and engineers
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Doctorate or Master’s degree in Chemical or Mechanical or other related engineering fields.
- Possess at least 10 years of experience in process development and engineering with good knowledge on process control and safety in the process or chemical industry
- Excellent working knowledge on various process technologies, scale-up & scale-down and process intensification methodologies or principles
- Has good working experience with relevant computer aided engineering tools including simulation (eg. Aspen Plus, AVEVA, Gproms etc.), and the use of detailed process models to support process design, scale-up and process optimisation during operations
- Experience in collaborating and has good appreciation with other related disciplines eg. electrical and instrumentation, automation, process safety etc.
- Ability to plan and/or execute experiments at laboratory and pilot scale (scale-up/scale-down) to support process development, troubleshooting and optimisation
- Working experience in a chemical production facility and familiarity with regulations, codes and industry best practices would be a bonus
- Working experience in process/plant engineering tools (eg. AutoCAD process/plant engineering, Aucotec Engineering Base, etc.) would be a bonus
- Possess technical leadership quality to lead team and/or supervise junior engineers
- Possess strong interpersonal, oral and written communication and organization skills
- Self-driven and meticulous individual who has the strong ability to multi-task and has good time management skills to deliver results under tight timelines
- Excellent written and oral communication skills for the timely documentation, presentation, and discussion of results in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary, team-based environment
