Job Description:
The Laboratory Officer will be responsible for managing day-to-day operations within the electrochemical lab and providing essential support to ongoing projects. The role requires a good level of technical proficiency in electrochemical techniques, excellent organizational skills, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. The Laboratory Officer will work closely with the project teams to ensure smooth and safe functioning of the lab and timely completion of tasks. Key responsibilities include:
Lab Management:
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the electrochemical lab, including equipment maintenance, inventory management, and safety protocols.
- Ensure that the lab is well-equipped and stocked with necessary materials and supplies for ongoing experiments and projects.
- Coordinate with vendors for procurement of equipment/chemicals and supplies as needed.
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment in accordance with laboratory standards and regulations.
Experimental Support:
- Assist researchers and project teams with experimental setup, data collection, and analysis.
- Characterizations of surfaces and coatings in terms of mechanical, physical and chemical properties, as well as coating performance evaluation.
- Troubleshoot technical issues and provide guidance on experimental procedures as required.
- Conduct routine calibration and maintenance of electrochemical equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability of results.
- Document experimental procedures, results, and observations in detailed lab reports.
Project Support:
- Collaborate with project teams to support the execution of research projects related to electrochemical applications.
- Manage project timelines and deliverables to ensure that milestones are met in a timely manner.
- Communicate regularly with project stakeholders to provide updates on progress and address any concerns or challenges that arise.
Training and Development:
- Provide training and guidance to new lab members on proper laboratory techniques, safety procedures, and equipment operation.
- Stay informed about advancements in electrochemical technology and techniques through literature review and professional development activities.
- Share knowledge and best practices with other members of the research team to enhance overall productivity and efficiency.
Job Requirements:
- Diploma or equivalent qualification in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related science and engineering field.
- Proven experience working in a laboratory setting, preferably with a focus on electrochemistry.
- Strong understanding of electrochemical principles and techniques, including cyclic voltammetry, impedance spectroscopy, and potentiostatic/galvanostatic measurements.
- Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting electrochemical equipment such as potentiostats, electrochemical cells, and electrodes.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize effectively.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Commitment to maintaining a safe and compliant laboratory environment, with knowledge of relevant safety regulations and procedures.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing project requirements and priorities, with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, while also contributing effectively to a dynamic research team.
