LAI games is growing, and we want to expand our support to our customers by offering remote software management of our games, and we want to provide our customers with comprehensive use-data of our games. We want to expand our software team for this, and we’re looking for an experienced software engineering manager to realize this ambition.


The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will lead and as well as engineer solutions to mechanical design challenges in amusement and arcade machines, taking ideas from concept through to mass production in an innovative, cost effective, production-friendly

manner. The position offers the candidate design freedom to explore new ideas as well as showcase his/her leadership skills by being a team lead in assigned projects.


What You’re Responsible For

  • Create 3D and 2D CAD mechanical part and assembly drawings that detail the product’s design intent, supported by engineering calculations where necessary.
  • Be the Mechanical Engineering team leader and offer guidance to the team and mechanical engineers.
  • Review engineering designs & related documentation (e.g., 2D drawings, BOMS, calculations, tolerance analysis, etc.) from Mechanical Engineers with the aim of achieving the most optimal design with emphasis on reliability and safety Lead the DFX and support FMEA activities
  • Create where needed specifications that align with stakeholders and bring clarity to the products to be produced.
  • Lead or assist in development of validation requirements and associated validation test protcols
  • Create RFQs and purchase requests for parts from suppliers and these may include electro-mechanical elements such as motors, solenoids, sensors, etc. Do simple sourcing of catalogue parts to fulfill prototyping and testing needs prior to production release, e.g., during concept trials.
  • Ensure released product design is DFX optomized, manufacturable, reliable, repeatable, cost optimised (including optimised for container loading) and is safe and easy for assembly & servicing at customer locations.
  • Ensure released product design meets regulatory requirements of the destination region such as CE mark & UL22.
  • Specify and manage product BOMs.
  • Along with Sustaining Engineering, manage engineering changes via Engineering Change Notifications with supporting engineering documentation.
  • Document the key aspects necessary to accomplish the reliable manufacturing of products that will perform consistently in specified operating environments.
  • Design & build mock-ups and prototypes by collaborating with vendors & technicians and/or via 3D printing.
  • Collaborate with professionals outside the mechanical engineering team. This includes discussing and solving complex engineering problems with the various team members, suppliers, test labs and customers.
  • Support project teams to meet agreed project deadlines, scope, quality & budget.
  • Support Supply Chain team in specifying, analysing & testing components/product for alternate source or for cost reduction activities
  • Support customer related quality issues with quick & reliable engineering solutions that are supported with test results.
  • Help the technical documentation writer by supplying technical information and other required information to complete user/operator manuals, etc.
  • Support lessons learnt documentation to prevent recurrence of repeat issues.
  • Help with on-site setup and conduct its testing and reporting
  • Travel to visit suppliers and production facilities when needed.

What We’re Looking For

  • Minimum 6 yrs. of mechanical engineering working experience designing machines with electro-mechanical components, linkages, springs, etc.
  • Very good working experience in: 3D & 2D CAD software, preferably Autodesk Inventor with a working knowledge in 3D surfacing, dynamics and FEM (mechanical stresses).
  • Sheet metal design, especially for non-stamping processes, such as bending, welding and laser cutting and applicable secondary processes such as powder coating, spray painting, electroplating, etc.
  • Designing with non-ferrous materials such as plywood, MDF and sheet plastics.
  • The creation and maintenance (ECNs) of 3D & 2D drawings and BOMs.
  • Specifying manufacturing and product tolerances and performing tolerance analysis
  • Performing engineering calculations such as kinematics of linkages, torque requirements. analysis, forces in linkages, simple stress calculations of beams.
  • Conducting root cause investigations, testing and writing reports using MS office applications.
  • Conceptualising and designing reliability test rigs & writing test procedures to prove designs.
  • Performing data analysis using MS Excel.
  • Reviewing and providing constructive feedback on designs or documentation improvements.

Additional Attributes

  • Mechatronics experience. Maker passion
  • 3D printing technologies and able to work with 3D printers using the FDM method
  • Designing vacuum formed parts and injection molded parts.
  • PLM/PDM systems.
  • Confluence (a system to store & share information)

Special Requirements

  • Must be a creative, passionate and self-driven person with excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, able to clearly document & present ideas, write technical and non-technical correspondence.
  • Must be a team player and a hands-on person who is resourceful in getting information from the Internet/libraries or other sources to aid in product development.
  • Must have a passion for games is critical as you'll be collaborating with the games development team and contributing to LAI Games products.

Internal/External Relationships

  • Internal: work with all functions, especially, R&D, SCM, Manufacturing, Project management. & Quality
  • External: Component suppliers and production teams (prototyping, pre- production and mass production).

Qualifications/Education

  • Masters or bachelor’s degree holder in mechanical/mechatronics engineering or similar discipline
