Job Description:
The Refrigeration Engineer/Technician will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of refrigeration systems used in the production and storage of ice, including ice machines, cold rooms, freezer trucks, and autopacking machines. This role involves troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and ensuring all equipment operates efficiently and complies with safety standards. The technician will collaborate with the production team to minimize downtime and improve the overall efficiency of the facility.
Responsibilities:
- Installation and Maintenance:Install and commission ice machines, cold rooms, freezer trucks, and autopacking machines.
Perform routine preventive maintenance to ensure optimal functioning of refrigeration and packaging systems.
Troubleshoot and repair breakdowns or malfunctions in refrigeration systems, including ice machines, compressors, condensers, evaporators, and automated packing equipment.
- Refrigeration Systems Operation:Monitor the performance of ice-making and cold storage equipment.
Adjust and calibrate refrigeration controls, such as thermostats and pressure gauges, to maintain optimal temperatures.
Manage refrigerant levels, ensuring the proper handling and disposal of refrigerants as per environmental regulations.
- Cold Room and Freezer Truck Management:Ensure cold rooms and freezer trucks maintain appropriate temperatures for ice storage and transportation.
Conduct regular inspections of cold storage facilities and freezer trucks to identify potential issues.
Manage the energy efficiency of refrigeration units, recommending upgrades or improvements when necessary.
- Autopacking Machine Support:Maintain and repair autopacking machines, ensuring they operate smoothly and efficiently.
Perform mechanical and electrical troubleshooting on packing machines and automate systems as needed.
- Documentation and Reporting:Keep detailed maintenance logs and records of equipment performance.
Report any major equipment failures or parts that need replacement to management.
Assist in managing spare parts inventory for refrigeration and packing equipment.
- Health & Safety Compliance:Ensure all work complies with safety standards, especially when working with refrigerants and electrical systems.
Maintain a safe working environment, adhering to industry regulations for refrigerants and cold storage.
Requirements:
- Technical Qualifications:Diploma or Degree in Refrigeration, HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning), or a related engineering field.
Certification in handling refrigerants (e.g., F-Gas certification or equivalent).
Electrical and mechanical certifications are preferred.
- Experience:Minimum of 3-5 years of experience working with commercial refrigeration systems, including ice machines, cold rooms, freezer trucks, and autopacking machines.
Experience with ammonia-based refrigeration systems (if applicable) and other industrial-grade cooling systems is an advantage.
Familiarity with automated packaging machines and production line equipment.
- Technical Skills:Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills for both refrigeration and mechanical systems.
Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams and manuals.
Proficiency in using tools, meters, and other diagnostic equipment for refrigeration maintenance.
- Communication and Teamwork:Good communication skills to coordinate with the production team, suppliers, and management.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Other Requirements:Willingness to work flexible hours, including on-call duties for emergency repairs.
Valid driver’s license for maintenance work on freezer trucks.
