What the role is
The Inspectorate Department (ID) administers the Environmental Protection and Management Act (EPMA) and its Regulations to control air, water and noise pollution, as well as manage hazardous substances and toxic industrial wastes in industrial and trade premises.
What you will be working on
You will be assigned to a catchment consisting of various types of industries (e.g., petrochemical, pharmaceutical, waste recycling plants, toxic industrial waste collectors, etc.) and will implement programmes to control pollution in your catchment. You will be responsible for the following:
- Supervise a team to plan inspection to industries, resolve feedback and complaints, perform investigations, and carry out enforcement actions with regards to air, water and noise pollution
- Supervise a team to assess industrial plant operations and verify that pollution control requirements are fulfilled to prepare Written Permissions for industries
- Attend to complex feedback, queries, appeals and investigations on pollution matters
- Provide technical assessments and evaluate environmental requirements for new industrial plants
- Collaborate with other departments within NEA, other agencies, as well as industries stakeholders to review and implement new pollution control measures and frameworks
- Review work processes and practices to enhance effectiveness and productivity
- Put up reports and make presentations to Senior Management on environmental pollution related matters
- Work closely with other economic agencies such as MTI, JTC, EDB to manage overall emissions of pollutants and trade effluent discharges from industries
- Contribute to and support other work in NEA (e.g. rotational duty for response to pollution incidents after office hours, management of workplace safety, representation on various teams/committees, etc.)
