Main Function:
The Handyman is responsible for performing routine maintenance and repair service around the school campus in one or more fields (e.g. carpentry, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, etc). The Handyman is also in-charge of general cleaning, landscaping, facilities security and assisting the Facilities Executive with coordination of cleaners’ task assignments and other ad-hoc assigned. This is a full-time role, reporting to the Facilities Executive.
Responsibilities:
1. Maintenance:
- Identify school facilities maintenance needs and take corrective actions. Ensuring the safety and good functional standard of the school facilities.
- Conduct preventive maintenance and general troubleshooting of school building and facilities (e.g. fans, lighting, general office carpentry, decorating, etc)
- Carry out minor mechanical and electrical repairs in relation to school buildings and facilities, planned and executed with minimal risk or inconvenience to others.
- Perform general tasks as assigned (e.g. furniture revisions, minor painting works, changing of light bulbs, etc).
- Ensuring efficient use of storage and pantry spaces.
2. Safety and Security:
- Keeping the school premises and surrounding areas clear of trash, litter, debris, and drainage chokes.
- Ensuring a clean and safe environment around the school premises including school fields and swimming pool areas.
- Assist to monitor and report to Facilities Executive in waste/garbage dumping by co-located tenants.
- Assist to oversee contractors in improvement and repair works.
- Assist Facilities Executive in premise safety, (e.g. fire extinguisher safety check, escorting contractors, tree pruning, pest control).
3. Gardening and Landscaping:
- Maintaining condition and appearance of flowers, bushes, trees, shrubs, fertilizing, lawns and weeding in the school premise, including school fields and swimming pool areas.
- Assist Facilities Executive in coordinating with contractors on tree pruning and crowning.
4. General duties:
- Assist Facilities Executive in coordinating the deployment of cleaners’ tasks assignment.
- To take over the duties of the cleaning staff if he/she is not available.
- Assist to facilitate in the preparation of school events and activities.
- To unlock the gates and doors in the school premises in the morning before arrival of all staff.
- To perform locking up of the school premises at the end of the day.
- Any other duties as assigned by the school.
Requirements:
1. Nitec in Built Environment.
2. Experienced in facilities management, especially in a school environment, and WSQ Perform Work at Height is highly advantageous.
3. Due to the nature of work and liaison, multi-lingual capabilities in English, Mandarin, common Chinese dialects, Malay and/or Tamil will be preferred.
4. Able and willing to work overtime/occasional weekends, if required.
5. Physically fit and nimble.
6. Immunization required as per ECDA guidelines.
7. No prior criminal offence records.
