Job Summary:

We are seeking a knowledgeable and passionate Wine Sommelier to join our restaurant team. The Wine Sommelier will be responsible for curating our wine list, providing recommendations and wine pairing suggestions to guests, managing the wine cellar, and ensuring exceptional wine service. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of wines, vineyards, regions, and winemaking processes. They should have excellent communication skills, a strong palate, and the ability to create memorable dining experiences through their expertise in wines.


Responsibilities:

Ø Curate and manage an extensive and diverse wine list, ensuring it aligns with the restaurant's concept, menu, and target clientele.

Ø Assist guests in selecting wines that complement their food choices and meet their preferences.

Ø Provide detailed information about wines, including their characteristics, flavour profiles, origins, and production methods.

Ø Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of current wine trends, new releases, and industry developments.

Ø Oversee wine inventory management, including purchasing, receiving, and storage.

Ø Conduct regular wine tastings and staff training sessions to enhance wine knowledge and service skills.

Ø Collaborate with the culinary team to develop wine pairing suggestions for menu items.

Ø Offer recommendations for wine-related events, promotions, and special wine dinners.

Ø Ensure proper wine service techniques are followed, including decanting, opening, and pouring wines.

Ø Monitor wine quality and identify any issues or defects, taking appropriate action to resolve them.

Ø Provide exceptional customer service and create a memorable dining experience for guests.

Ø Stay up-to-date with industry regulations and compliance standards related to wine service.


Qualifications:

Ø Proven experience as a Wine Sommelier or similar wine-focused role in a high-end restaurant or hotel.

Ø Extensive knowledge of wines, vineyards, regions, and winemaking processes.

Ø Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and educate guests.

Ø Strong wine tasting and evaluation skills, with a discerning palate.

Ø Solid understanding of wine pairing principles and ability to suggest appropriate wine options for different cuisines.

Ø Familiarity with wine inventory management systems and cellar organization.

Ø Certification from a recognized wine program, such as Court of Master Sommeliers, WSET, or equivalent, is preferred.

Ø Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, multitask, and make informed decisions under pressure.

Ø Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of wine service.

Ø A genuine passion for wine and a desire to continually expand knowledge in the field.
