About the Role

As a Markets Lawyer within the Markets Legal Team in Asia you will be primarily responsible for providing transactional, advisory and regulatory support to ANZ’s global markets business in Asia which sits within the Institutional Banking division of ANZ. The role also includes managing negotiations of OTC derivative documentation including ISDA, CSA, GMRA, GMSLA, brokerage agreements other related markets documentation.

What will your day look like?

As a Markets Lawyer, you will provide markets advisory and derivatives documentation services, including legal support for legal and regulatory development for derivatives, roll-out of new products / projects, facility linked hedging, ad hoc legal advisory support, and markets related documentation review and drafting. You will be responsible for;

  • Negotiating and giving general legal advice on markets transactions and products across FX, Rates, Commodities and Credit (e.g. termsheets, trade confirmations, facility linked hedging, etc).
  • Providing legal support for roll-out of new products, new client types, and/or new jurisdictions for both sales and trading.
  • Providing legal support on legal and regulatory developments for derivatives.
  • Managing the entire negotiation process for OTC derivatives documentation including ISDA (facility-linked and non-facility linked), CSA (both regulatory and non-regulatory CSAs), GMRA, GMSLA, clearing agreements and other related markets documentation. This includes assisting in liaising and obtaining approval from relevant internal stakeholders including Credit, Central CSA, Markets Operations, collateral management, Tax and Group Treasury and adhering to internal initiatives and processes including proper maintenance of matters in the legal agreement repository and reporting system;
  • Conducting close-out netting reviews and provide ad hoc advice on close-out netting;
  • Advising on legal issues such as legal capacity and authority and enforceability of collateral;
  • Complying with relevant ANZ policies, processes and internal standards.
  • Participating in internal projects and assisting the Markets business to achieve its strategic objectives; and
  • Providing support to other team members of the Markets Legal team.

What will you bring?

To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:

  • Tertiary Legal qualification
    Relevant experience in OTC derivatives advisory and documentation in Asia, including review of facility-linked swaps, and reviewing legal and regulatory developments for derivatives.
  • Confident in providing accurate and effective legal support to all relevant ANZ internal stakeholders, including business / front-office sales and trading;
  • Strong understanding of the global markets environment, including regulatory developments, relevant markets products, documentation, risk and compliance issues;
  • General understanding of a bank’s internal approval processes (including those relating to new products, collateral management, compliance, credit, business management, and tax).
