The Singapore Centre for Environmental Life Sciences Engineering (SCELSE) is a unique interdisciplinary Research Centre of Excellence (RCE), funded by National Research Foundation, Ministry of Education, Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and National University of Singapore (NUS). Hosted by NTU in partnership with NUS, SCELSE is linking new insights from the life sciences with expertise from emerging technologies in engineering and natural sciences to understand, harness and control microbial biofilm communities and microbiomes.
We are seeking to appoint a motivated individual to join our team at SCELSE as a research assistant. The successful candidate will support research conducted in rodents aimed at understanding the physiology of bacteria and their interactions with immune cells in biofilm-related infections. The selected candidate will work independently or in a small team to plan and perform both in vivo and in vitro experiments to address specific scientific questions related to biofilm-related infections.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in planning and performing in vivo experiments using mouse and rat models of infection, such as wound infection and infective endocarditis.
- Assist in planning, performing, and documenting in vitro laboratory experiments involving animal tissue, bacteria and/or immune cells using methods, such as cryosectioning, microscopy, flow cytometry, western blot, qPCR.
- Responsible for procuring animals and consumables related to the projects
- Responsible for preparing reagents and instruments related to the projects
- Assist in human subject recruitment for studies related to biofilm infections
- Work closely with the Principal Investigator of the project to analyse and interpret data, as well as troubleshoot experiments
- Participate in project meetings & prepare project updates
Job Requirements:
- BA or BS in biology, biomedicine, microbiology or a related field
- Experience in handling and injecting rodents is essential
- Experience in small animal surgical procedures is a plus
- Experience in aseptic microbiology and/or cell culture technique is essential
- Experience with tissue preparation for cryosectioning, immunofluorescence, and microscopy is a plus
- Ability to design, plan, and execute experiments under supervision or independently
- Ability to prepare laboratory equipment and reagents
- Detail-oriented and capable of maintaining accurate records of experiments and results
- Be flexible and open to last-minute changes and variations
We regret that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
