Role Purpose
Responsible for the overall Cargo Stowage Planning and Operation Supervision for safe cargo operation of the voyages / vessels, under Swire Projects’ control.
Role Accountabilities
Technical
- Devise, lead and provide technical direction and guidance for all design, engineering planning and cargo operations, as well as overall project management of projects and shipments from cargo enquiry to delivery at discharge ports.
- Formulate and constantly review strategies to improve overall cargo handling and stowage operations adhering to top most safety, cost effectiveness and efficiency.
- Manage and control safe planning and cost effective cargo operations in liaison with commercial, operations departments and cargo superintendents on site.
- Manage and control all plans and operations to be in accordance with relevant policies, procedures, agreements and legislative requirements.
Management
- Manage department’s mentoring, staffing and resources, while keeping high standards of engineering expertise in the industry.
- Play a leading role in recruiting and strengthening the department in order to ensure excellence and consistency in departmental delivery and efficiency.
- Promote professional growth of individual team members through mentoring and consultations.
- Overlook vessel operations to utilise, optimise and manage scheduling and cargo issues, and improve existing services and products.
- Design and conduct data studies to drive organisational decisions and insights.
- Make recommendations to guide organisational decision-making.
- Develop long-term departmental plans within financial plans and budget requirements.
- Lead with a customer oriented and value-driven mindset, without comprising on safety.
- Lead, manage and mentor a growing globally distributed team in guiding performance excellence and career growth.

- Formulate guidelines and strategies for optimisation and improvements of processes to achieve business optimisation goals.
- Devise transformational initiatives to streamline business operations.
- Initiate organisation-wide reformation of processes to improve productivity.
- Implement system plans and supervise use of technology to execute tasks.
- Set risk appetite and risk goals by establishing, evaluating and managing organisational strategic objectives, processes, capabilities, and internal and external environment in relation to risk management philosophy and processes in all engineering plans and operations.
- Develop and sustain clear communications and feedback/improvement channels within the department, and also inter department.
- Deliver service excellence that is in line with the organisation's customer-focused strategies by promoting a customer-centric environment.
- Devise and analyse the team's performance to identify areas of improvement and optimisation of processes.
Policy and Training
- The incumbent is responsible for adhering to and implementing the Company's Policies & Procedures.
- Responsibilities also include timely, regular reviews, amendments/updates, verification/authorisation of procedures and ensuring purchasing, installation and test criteria are met as outlined in the Operating Manual.
Crisis Management
- Make every effort to be aware of and understand your role in the event of a crisis.
- Make every effort to attend any relevant training, simulations and or meetings relating to Crisis Management
- Perform your role as best as possible in a calm and collaborative manner in line with the relevant policy and procedures in the event of a Crisis
- Provide input and feedback towards the ongoing improvement of the Crisis Management framework and procedure.

- Challenging and stopping unsafe acts and behaviours or unsafe conditions.
- Comply with the Global Safety Standards, Policies and Operating Procedures.
Key Qualifications & Skills (What knowledge will ensure success in the role?)
Qualifications & Technical Skills
- Preferably having more than 6-10 years of related experience with cargo planning, structural analysis, and project management.
- Proven ability to interpret technical drawings, produce solutions and operate with an eye for detail
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering or Structural Engineering
- Knowledge and experience in Finite Element Analysis and relevant design standards, motion response, calculations such as stability, structural and strength verification, and structural design and drawings for Classification Society approvals
- Demonstrated knowledge of Class Societies, Ship Classification Rules, and IMO Rules.
- Skills in AutoCAD and FEA software such as Ansys, are required.
