DESCRIPTION
Founded in 2015, INCITIAS’ engineers have collaborated within the energy and maritime industries globally in over 28 countries and on more than 60 energy transition projects to date. Over the last two years we have seen significant increase in the number of projects in generation, storage and transportation of hydrogen and green ammonia. Now we are looking for a Principal Pipeline Engineer to strengthen our presence in renewables and our position as technology integrator and provider of original equipment to the energy and marine offshore industry.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for the design, analysis, and management of onshore hydrogen and natural gas pipeline projects, including road and water crossings using technologies such as directional drilling, route selection, compressor stations, and valve station design. The candidate will ensure the safe, efficient, and regulatory-compliant execution of pipeline infrastructure projects, while providing technical support throughout the lifecycle of the projects, from feasibility studies to commissioning.
Main Duties and/or Responsibilities
Pipeline Design & Engineering:
- Perform engineering design and route selection for gas pipelines, ensuring optimized path selection with consideration for environmental, regulatory, and economic factors.
- Develop plans for road and water crossings using trenchless technology such as horizontal directional drilling (HDD) to minimize environmental impact.
- Design valve stations, compressor stations, and other necessary infrastructure in compliance with relevant standards and project specifications.
Compressor & Valve Stations:
- Design and oversee installation of compressor stations, ensuring that gas flow requirements are met for efficient transmission and pressure regulation.
- Conduct site-specific analysis for valve station design, integrating safety protocols, flow control, and monitoring systems as required
Crossing and Site Management:
- Provide technical solutions and designs for challenging road and water crossings using HDD and other trenchless methods.
- Coordinate with regulatory agencies and environmental consultants to ensure adherence to permitting processes and environmental impact assessments.
Project Management & Collaboration:
- Collaborate with project managers, construction teams, and third-party contractors to ensure smooth execution of the pipeline construction and installation activities.
- Prepare and present technical reports, progress updates, and participate in stakeholder meetings to provide project status.
Risk Assessment & Compliance:
- Conduct risk assessments for route selection, water crossings, and compressor stations, identifying and mitigating potential risks such as geological instability or environmental impact.
- Ensure all design and engineering activities comply with international and local codes (e.g., API 1104, ASME B31.8) and health, safety, and environmental regulations.
Field Support:
- Provide engineering support during construction phases, including site inspections, troubleshooting, and quality control to ensure adherence to design specifications.
Regulatory and Environmental Permitting:
- Support the regulatory approval process by preparing documentation and liaising with authorities for permitting processes related to land acquisition, waterbody crossings, and construction approvals.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Pipeline Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 15+ years of experience in onshore pipeline engineering, particularly in natural gas and knowledge in hydrogen pipelines.
- Proven expertise in designing road and water crossings and directional drilling and other trenching methods.
- Strong knowledge of compressor station and valve station design, including material selection and flow dynamics.
- Proficiency in pipeline design and analysis software
- Familiarity with relevant international standards and codes.
- Ability to perform route selection using GIS tools and manage environmental impact assessments.
- Excellent project management skills, with experience in overseeing multidisciplinary teams and contractors.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) or Chartered Engineer (CEng) certification.
- Experience in all elements of onshore transmission pipeline design.
- Familiarity with environmental permitting, impact assessments, and risk mitigation strategies for infrastructure projects.
- Knowledge of pipeline integrity assessment and maintenance strategies.
Benefits:
- Competitive salary and benefits package.
- Opportunity to work on innovative and challenging projects in the marine and energy sectors.
- Professional development and career growth opportunities.
