The Singapore Centre for Environmental Life Sciences Engineering (SCELSE) is a unique interdisciplinary Research Centre of Excellence (RCE), funded by National Research Foundation, Ministry of Education, Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and National University of Singapore (NUS). Hosted by NTU in partnership with NUS, SCELSE is linking new insights from the life sciences with expertise from emerging technologies in engineering and natural sciences to understand, harness and control microbial biofilm communities.
We are seeking to appoint a motivated individual to join our team at SCELSE as a research assistant. The successful candidate will support research conducted in the lab which is studying microbial biofilm development, and microbe-microbe interactions, in settings relevant to the food chain. The selected candidate will work independently or in a small team to plan and perform experiments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with general laboratory management tasks to support research work.
- Assist with planning, performing and documenting laboratory experiments with in vitro biofilm models to study biofilm development and community interactions using methods such as transposon mutagenesis, microscopy, genomics and molecular microbiology.
- Be responsible for maintaining general laboratory stocks of specialised consumables, media and reagents etc.
- Work closely with the Principal Investigator of the project to analyse and interpret data, as well as troubleshoot experiments.
- Participate in project meetings and prepare project updates.
Job Requirements:
- BA or BS in biology, biomedicine, microbiology or a related field.
- Experience in general microbiology processes
- Experience in aseptic microbiology techniques
