The Role
The Sustainable and Green Finance Institute (SGFIN) is a university-level research institute in the National University of Singapore (NUS), jointly supported by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) and NUS. SGFIN aspires to develop deep research capabilities in sustainable and green finance, provide thought leadership in the sustainability space, and shape sustainability outcomes across the financial sector and the economy at large.
This role is ideally suited for those wishing to work in academic or industry research in the financial sector, particularly in the area of sustainable, responsible, and green investing and valuation. The responsibilities of the role will include providing administrative leadership for SGFIN, ensuring ample support to meet the finance, human resources, and administrative needs of the Institute’s operation.
Responsibilities
Administrative Leadership and Collaborations
- Plan, lead, and oversee the operations of the Institute
- Lead a team, comprising of a small number of direct reports (administrative staff), as well as indirect reports (researchers, student assistants) and temporary staff hires, to ensure the smooth operations of the Institute
- Develop a strong framework for internal (within NUS) collaborations with various NUS units and departments,
- Promote an inclusive external engagement strategy, with the Institute’s leadership team, to promote active collaborations and sponsorships with the industry, including managing the communications with speakers and attendees of the Institute’s academic and industry activities
- Assist in the preparation of project proposals and research grant applications
Finance
- Oversee the Institute’s financial matters, including performing financial planning and projections, and preparing annual reports to internal and external stakeholders.
- Manage the Institute’s income sources and expenditures, aligning them with SGFIN strategic priorities.
- Foster and maintain cross-function collaboration with business partners to facilitate greater efficiency and clarity in financial processes.
Human Resources
- Oversee the Institute’s HR matters, in close collaboration with NUS HR team, to establish good practices in hiring and retention, including developing a fair and equitable compensation structure to attract new hires and retain outstanding staff.
- Promote professional development for the Institute’s staff.
Communication
- Oversee the reliable delivery of the Institute’s websites and collaterals, including the publication and circulation of the Institute’s research communications
- Coordinate promotional events such as media interviews and invited speeches representing SGFIN (via social media, newspapers, TV channels, radio interviews)
Requirements
- Recognised University degree
- Resourceful, motivated, self-driven individual with a high level of initiative
- Excellent organizational skills, including interpersonal and leadership skills
- Excellent communication skills, including writing skills
- Relevant prior working experience in the administrative and managerial roles, including a track record of leading a team of motivated staff members
- Able to multi-task well with clear follow-through
- Meticulous, with an eye for details
- Competent in Microsoft Office tools - Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
