The Logistics Assistant Manager/Manager in the Pet Industry is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the warehouse, ensuring efficient and effective management of inventory, logistics, and transportation. This role involves managing key performance indicators (KPIs), driving process improvements, leading a team, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to support the overall business objectives. The Warehouse Assistant Manager plays a crucial role in ensuring that all warehouse activities align with the company's standards for safety, quality, and customer satisfaction.
Job Responsibilities:
1. Warehouse Operations Management:
- Oversee all aspects of warehouse operations, including receiving, storing, picking, packing, and shipping of pet products.
- Ensure that all warehouse activities are conducted in compliance with company policies, safety regulations, and industry standards.
- Maintain accurate inventory records, conducting regular cycle counts, and ensuring that inventory discrepancies are promptly investigated and resolved.
- Optimize space utilization within the warehouse to maximize storage efficiency and reduce operational costs.
2. Transport and Logistics Management:
- Manage the transportation of goods to and from the warehouse, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery of products to customers and other business locations.
- Monitor transport KPIs such as delivery accuracy, on-time performance, and transportation costs, implementing corrective actions as needed.
- Collaborate with logistics providers to negotiate contracts and ensure the best possible service levels.
- Coordinate with the customer service and sales teams to resolve any issues related to delivery schedules, product availability, or transportation.
3. KPI Management:
- Develop, monitor, and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to warehouse and transport activities.
- Analyze KPI data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and areas for improvement, implementing strategies to achieve or exceed targets.
- Regularly review and update KPIs to ensure they align with the evolving needs of the business and industry best practices.
4. Process Improvement:
- Continuously evaluate warehouse and transport processes, identifying opportunities for automation, cost reduction, and increased efficiency.
- Lead and support initiatives aimed at improving warehouse operations, including lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and other process improvement methodologies.
- Implement best practices and innovative solutions to enhance the overall performance of the warehouse.
5. People Management:
- Supervise, train, and develop a team of warehouse staff, including warehouse operatives, supervisors, and drivers.
- Foster a positive and inclusive work environment, promoting teamwork, open communication, and professional growth.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations, providing constructive feedback, and implementing development plans to improve staff performance.
- Ensure that all team members are trained in health and safety protocols and that safety standards are consistently upheld.
6. Stakeholder Management:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, including procurement, sales, customer service, and finance teams.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for external stakeholders such as suppliers, logistics partners, and customers.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support the launch of new products, promotional campaigns, and other business initiatives.
- Provide regular updates to senior management on warehouse performance, challenges, and opportunities for improvement.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in warehouse management or a similar role, preferably within the pet industry or a related sector.
- Proven experience in managing warehouse operations, transport logistics, and team leadership.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret KPI data and implement effective strategies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Knowledge of warehouse management systems (WMS) and other relevant software.
- Familiarity with process improvement methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, or Kaizen is a plus.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
