The Opportunity:
The Projects & Energy Transition team in Singapore are looking for a lawyer with at least 4 years' legal experience. The opportunity is to perform the role of lead non-partner advising on the shareholder and commercial documentation for these major transactions, with support and supervision from the relevant partner(s), and gain exceptional experience.
Our preferred candidate should have significant experience working on the shareholder/joint venture, construction and operation and supply and offtake arrangements for projects in the energy (and particularly power and LNG) and infrastructure space which have been structured to support a project financing, as well as significant transaction management experience and organisational skills.
They should be lateral thinkers and self-starters with a genuine interest in the underlying sector and keen on the international exposure offered by the role.
In this role, you will:
- Have day to day responsibility for matters, with extensive direct client contact and contact with local counsel.
- Draft and review shareholder/joint venture, concessions, construction and operation and supply and offtake arrangements and relevant ancillary arrangements, with a focus on bankability.
- Negotiate, with appropriate partner support, with counterparties.
- Manage and supervise signing and closing of conditions precedent under the relevant documentation.
- Attend business development and networking activities.
- Contribute to and refine department know-how.
- Nurture and mentor junior lawyers and provide leadership in conjunction with partners.
Desired Skills and Experience:
- Relevant legal qualifications (preferably gained in English Law).
- Minimum 4 years' legal experience gained (preferably) within private practice.
- Experience working on the shareholder/joint venture, construction and operation and supply and offtake arrangements for projects in the energy (and particularly power and LNG) and infrastructure space which have been structured to support a project financing.
- Experience with international clients, development banks/multilaterals and export credit agencies is preferred but not essential.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills (including drafting) and excellent organisational skills.
- Confidence to lead effective negotiations with clients and counterparties.
- Strong ability to communicate with and listen to clients in order to understand their needs and how best to meet them. Experience working with local counsel in other jurisdictions and delivering an integrated product.
- Lateral thinker to develop innovative solutions to issues that arise during transactions.
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to identify inconsistencies that indicate problems with quality of work or a misunderstanding of clients' needs.
- Ability to build team morale and motivate team members, contributing to the creation of a positive work environment and to assist with training and development.
- A proactive, positive and energetic approach with a commitment to providing excellent service and a desire to interact with the market and build client relationships.
