REGIONAL BERTH PLANNING MANAGER (AUSTRALIA & JAPAN) A global European marine transportation firm is seeking for high calibre Regional Berth Planning Manager, covering Australia and Japan, to be part of their regional team here in Singapore. You will be reporting to the Terminal Performance Senior Manager.
About the Role:
In this role, your main task is to optimize and drive day-to-day berth prospect agreements with terminals, focusing on the fastest possible turnaround of vessels to meet network requirements. Monitors operational progress. Drives proforma optimizations in collaboration with Network Execution
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate with Network Execution and terminal operators to ensure optimal berthing lineup and monitor vessel ETA/ETC progress.
- Maintain a master-berthing plan based on forecasted volume, crane intensity, and yard utilization.
- Formulate performance reports and Visual Management, including berth delay and weekly operation reports.
- Monitor congestion, contingencies, and collaborate with Network Execution to manage recovery efforts.
- Create and maintain the Regional Berthing Playbook, including negotiation strategies with terminals.
- Optimize berth plans to ensure T/S connection and vessel utilization per Cargo Control and T/S teams' plans.
- Oversee terminal operations, manage connections to reduce dwell time, and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Support contract negotiations, vendor evaluations, and supervise cost control staff for invoice accuracy.
- To succeed in this role, you must have strong expertise in port operations, vessel scheduling, and terminal activities.
Key Requirements:
- Degree in marine studies, logistics, supply chain management, or a related field, or experience as a Nautical Officer
- Japanese speaking language is an added advantage
- Minimum 8 years of experience in berth planning, vessel operations or equivalent
- Strong knowledge of port operations, vessel scheduling, and terminal activities
- Strategic mindset and the ability to develop and implement effective plans and initiatives
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to drive operational improvements
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to build relationships with key stakeholders
- Familiarity with port and terminal management software and tools.
