Role
You will play a leading role within Clermont’s internal consulting team, responsible for production of creative and business writing for the operating companies (Opcos) owned by the Clermont Group. In collaboration with the Opco management teams and Clermont investment leads, you will write a variety of company publications, including thought leadership pieces, heritage booklets, governance documents, and other business storytelling products covering a range of sectors and topics. These are published both internally (within the Opco) and externally (websites, newspapers, trade magazines). You will work closely with the manager of Clermont Consulting, the Clermont Group Chairman, and the Director of Communications.

Responsibilities
At Clermont, we believe in harnessing the power of business storytelling to shape decision-making, build relationships and create passion brands. The candidate will help to lead first-rate business storytelling within the operating companies and portfolio investments.
The role would suit a professional business writer, journalist or communications expert with ambition, a quick understanding and storytelling talent. Suitable candidates will be comfortable working with executives and thought-leaders across a variety of industries and cultures, capable of capturing tone and voice with ease. They must be versatile in their ability to adapt language and style to suit the requirements of specific audiences and stakeholders (e.g. simple language for non-native English audiences, or a more professional tone when writing for a sophisticated business audience).
The successful candidate will be given the opportunity to do work far beyond the scope of a traditional communications professional or writer. This role sits at the heart of a high-performing, lean and action-driven business house with operating companies based in some of the world’s fastest growing and most dynamic geographies and sectors.
Key responsibilities:
- Charting the progress of operating companies through story
- Policy writing for internal playbooks and external publication
- Writing governance documents including heritage booklets, governance charters and annual reports
- Engaging Opco management teams on interviews and articles
- Speech writing e.g. for awards ceremonies
- Ad-hoc communications tasks
Requirements
The successful candidate will ideally possess the following traits:
- Exceptional English skills and a meticulous adherence to perfect grammar
- Experience in and around a newsroom environment
- A background in or deep understanding of business journalism
- First-rate research skills for learning about new industries
- Op-ed writing experience preferred
- Humility; be able to accept guidance and feedback without a bruised ego, and remain unfazed by high standards
- A great team spirit
- Ability to work independently
- Exceptional relational skills, able to represent the company well when interacting with operating companies or other external parties
