Overview
A Therapy Assistant provides support to therapists before, during and after therapy sessions. Responsibilities include assisting in department administration and operations and engaging in continuing education to further skills and knowledge in speech, occupational and physiotherapy. The individual could work at times in a collaborative, interdisciplinary team with speech, occupational and physiotherapists, teachers, physicians, audiologists, psychologists and social workers. Being diligent, flexible and resourceful is essential.
Job Description:
- Adhere to infection control procedures.
- Assist in fabrication, donning and doffing of orthosis and pressure garments.
- Assist therapists in assessing clients' status for suitability to start therapy sessions or continue with therapy session.
- Assist therapists in carrying out treatment plans.
- Assist therapists in recording therapy sessions according to template sets.
- Communicate information of therapy sessions to therapists.
- Conduct basic or routine group therapy.
- Educate clients on the use of therapeutic aids or assistive devices as prescribed by therapists.
- Educate patients and caregivers on therapeutic interventions as instructed by therapists.
- Maintain cleanliness and safety of therapy areas.
- Maintain inventories and equipment for the department.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives.
- Perform administrative duties.
- Perform therapy procedures according to protocols as instructed by therapists.
- Prepare clients, materials and equipment for assessments or therapy.
Requirements:
- Minimum ITE Skills Certificates or equivalent
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Basic IT skills (Eg: using Microsoft Words and Excel)
- Service oriented and customer focused
- Team player
- 1-3 years of relevant work experience
- Work Schedules: Mondays to Fridays: 0830hrs to 1730hrs or 0900hrs to 1800hrs, Saturdays: 0830 hrs to 1230 hrs or 0900 hrs to 1300 hrs (based on roster)
